Echoes of Giants is a melodic progressive rock band formed in 2004 by childhood friends Wes Bolton and Tracy Thomas. Based on a deep love of all manner of music, Echoes of Giants became a creative outlet for Wes and Tracy to experiment sonically and share stories. Joined by bassist Rick Kaufmann for final writing/production sessions and vocalist Joey Myers for recording sessions, “At the End of Myself was released in 2013. An ambitious personal narrative, “At the End of Myself” received positive reviews and connected with people nearby as well as those far from the Missouri town where Echoes of Giants began.
Writing sessions for their second effort began immediately and new material was incorporated into live performances (including an appearance at Progtoberfest III – Chicago). Joined by Rick Kaufmann (bass), Joey Myers (vocals), and Theese Weber (vocals), “The Way to Us” follows the unconventional formation of a family through grief and loss to a place of refuge and joy. “The Way to Us” is set to release in late August 2018.
Additional personnel include Brad Jenkins (mixing/mastering), John Walker (live drums), Dean Renninger (photography, artwork design), and Mat Matlack (photography, videography).
“The Way to Us” releases on CD and Digital on all major platforms tomorrow. From the initial writing sessions nearly 5 years ago to the final mastering, the making of this album has been an amazing journey. Our designer, Dean Renninger, put together an incredible CD artwork package. The wallet and 12 page booklet contain all of the album lyrics and the artwork included adds another dimension to the story the album attempts to tell. We are incredibly excited to release this album tomorrow and share part of our story with you.

 1. Not Naming Any Names -  2:05
 2. Try As I Might -  4:26
 3. Threatening War -  6:37
 4. Uncovering Your Tracks -  4:28

 6. Far Below -  4:35
 7. Pillar Of Salt -  1:25
 8. White Mist - 11:05
 9. Shed A Light -  5:20

`Dissolution` is the band`s twelfth studio album and follow up to 2015’s `Your Wilderness`.
The band have been categorised as a crossover prog come progressive rock band. Founder Bruce Soord started The Pineapple Thief as an outlet for his music back in 1999.
He revealed that the themes within Dissolution are “broadly speaking the title reflects the disintegration of relationships and the undoing of our social fabric. We’re living in a time when supposedly we are more connected than ever before, but, I personally am at my happiest when I unplug that connection.”
The album is opened quietly with `Not Naming Any Names` a short piece of just piano and vocal, a wonderfully ethereal understated introduction. Almost haunting. `Try As I Might` has an interesting churning guitar giving the impression of movement. It felt at times the band were keeping a lid on this offering in that it`s almost restrained. There is a cracking guitar break towards the end with some thumping drums. I really loved `Threatening War` with its questioning lyrics, it was a track that was at times quiet then took off at a pace. It seemed to have everything going on, wonderful guitar breaks, unnerving tinkling piano splashes, pounding drums and discreet vocals pitched just right.
A recent addition percussionist, drummer Gavin Harrison is more active within this album, it`s not surprising that `Uncovering Your Tracks` has a more tribal type drum beat, which runs all the way through, with the music layered around and the subtle vocals complimenting. We get a couple of rockier metal offerings with `All that You`ve Got` and the intricate `Far Below`, a couple of cuts that will have you nodding your head and tapping along to. `Pillar Of Salt` just a strummed guitar and vocal is almost the quiet before the storm of the penultimate eleven-minute opus of `White Mist` A song that sucks you in emotionally on its journey throughout this atmospheric and varied artistic composition. The final piece is a really understated arrangement called `Shed A Light`, moody and magnificent.
I have to say I really did enjoy this album, It had a real balance and beauty to it, very atmospheric throughout and also offered shedding guitar phases and stonking percussive beats to keep you from feeling it was becoming complacent. I also felt that it reflected a more collaborative approach from the band with Bruce Soord vocals guitar, Jon Sykes bass, Steve Kitch keyboards and Gavin Harrison drums all contributing to the one objective.

Free Your Mind And Win A Pony by Golden Animals, a power-pop duo who seem determined to turn back the hands of time, while cosmically channeling not only the sound, but the visions of those who’ve passed through or near the desert ranch out by the Salton Sea in California where this outing was recorded. I’ve been there, it’s hot, it’s dry, the mountains are more mysterious then the night owls and the stories that embellish them, and the stars [?], they shift and shimmer all on their own. The ranch is owned by a 60’s rock survivor, one who’s determined to remain anonymous [Gordon Kennedy], while helping to re-establish the mescaline laden campfire feel that sparked the likes of Hot Tuna, The Grateful Dead, and The Doors, yet with a simplified sound, along with the smooth mellow songs sung by Led Zeppelin, not to mention their drumming and guitar riffs. It’s been noted that there’s nothing on this album that’s forward looking, that it’s all retro. But that may just be Linda Beecroft and Tommy Eisners’ greatest strength ... taking those sounds and visions and bestowing them with a new flavor, making more of what was, with their psychedelic folk and blues based numbers that are both musically interesting, and lyrically compelling ... leaving me to say that just because something sounds familiar, doesn’t mean you’ve heard it before.

Blue Ash is a United States band, formed in Ohio in the summer of 1969 by bassist Frank Secich & vocalist Jim Kendzor. Guitarist Bill Yendrek and drummer David Evans were recruited later that summer.
The band debuted at "The Freak Out", a club in Youngstown, OH on October 3, 1969. They gained a loyal following playing an endless stream of one-nighters over that year. In October 1970, Bill Yendrek, was replaced by guitarist/songwriter Bill "Cupid" Bartolin.
Blue Ash continued playing 250-300 dates a year throughout Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio and West Virginia, while the songwriting team Frank Secich and Bill Bartolin accumulated an enormous amount of original material. In June 1972, Blue Ash signed a production contract with Peppermint Productions of Youngstown and started recording and sending out demos. In late 1972, they were signed to Mercury Records by A&R man Paul Nelson. Their first album No More, No Less was released in May 1973 and received rave reviews in the rock press. It is considered a power pop classic, and is regarded as highly collectible among fans of that genre (it was finally released on CD on the Collectors' Choice label in September 2008). Blue Ash toured and opened for such acts as the Stooges, Bob Seger, Aerosmith, Ted Nugent and more but for lack of sales they were dropped by Mercury Records in May 1974.
Blue Ash continued to play live and record, adding drummer Jeff Rozniata who replaced David Evans in 1974. They were signed to a singles deal with Playboy Records in 1977. The first single, "Look At You Now" became a regional hit in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Mississippi, as well as in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Playboy then offered an album deal. The LP Front Page News was recorded in Los Angeles in August 1977 and released in October of that year. It was selling well, but in early 1978 Playboy International pulled the plug on Playboy Records and Blue Ash was once again without a label. They called it quits in 1979.
A few audience-recorded live tapes of the band exist (including one of the original lineup from January 31, 1974 at the Packard Music Hall in Warren, OH) but are of generally poor recording quality. Other tapes recorded by a fan who followed Blue Ash to many of their gigs are rumored to exist, but have yet to surface on the collectors circuit.
In the summer of 2003 original members Frank Secich, David Evans, Bill Bartolin and Jim Kendzor got together privately in Ohio to play once again and decided to reform the band. On November 8 they played the International Pop Overthrow at the Khyber Pass in Philadelphia.
In the late 1990s, renewed interest toward the band was given a boost as a large cache of unreleased Blue Ash recordings fell into circulation amongst collectors. In the summer of 2004 an official release of that material—a two CD retrospective called "Around Again"—was released on Not Lame Records. It contains 44 songs of unreleased material spanning their career.
For their "reunion" gigs from 2003–2009, Frank Secich moved from bass guitar to rhythm guitar, and former members Brian Wingrove (piano) and Jeff Rozniata (drums) completed the band along with Bobby Darke (bass).
On October 3, 2009, guitarist Bill "Cupid" Bartolin died from complications of cancer, thus bringing to a sad end the story of Blue Ash.
Frank Secich is now a member of Deadbeat Poets, who have released three critically acclaimed CDs: Notes From The Underground (2007), Circustown (2010) and Youngstown Vortex Sutra in 2011.
In the late 1990s, Jim Kendzor's nephew, guitarist Leonard Crist, and Bill "Cupid" Bartolin's son, drummer Sean Bartolin, formed Cork, a short-lived band based out of Youngstown while Crist played in the Youngstown indie rock bands Savage Pastry, Isabella the Brave, You Are The War That I Want and Abortopotamus Rex.
In 2016, original Blue Ash members Frank Secich and Jim Kendzor began performing as Blue Ash, backed by Secich's current band Deadbeat Poets. Sometimes jocularly referred to as Half Ash, this configuration toured Spain, a hotbed of power pop fandom, to great acclaim in June 2016. Secich, Kendzor and Deadbeat Poets member Pete Drivere have also performed several acoustic shows.

11. Growing Dim - 3:23

American blues singer. She is the youngest daughter of Giovanni Sicilia, an Italian immigrant, born in the southern Italian regione of Calabria who emigrated to the United States in the 1960s, and Patricia Sicilia, born in Philadelphia. Sicilia has an older brother, David Sicilia, a physicist as well as an accomplished musician, and an older sister, Anne-Marie Sicilia, a math teacher in New Jersey. Sicilia attended the Council Rock School District in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
Philadelphia-based vocalist and songwriter Gina Sicilia has been actively singing the blues and writing her own songs since she was an adolescent. Exposed to blues and roots music by her parents, Sicilia began writing her own songs as a 12-year-old. By the time she was 16, she had some of the songs that would be included on her debut album. She graduated in 2007 from Temple University in Philadelphia with a degree in journalism. It was during her sophomore year in college that she began attending the weekly blues jams at Warmdaddy's in Philadelphia. She cut her teeth there and began to learn and develop as she associated with blues veterans, some of whom would help her record her first few demo discs. When her debut album, Allow Me to Confess, was released in 2007, the critical reaction was positive. She was called an important new voice in the blues with a maturity far beyond her years, evident in her choice of covers of oft-overlooked rhythm & blues classics. In the spring of 2008, her album was nominated for "Best New Artist Debut" at the W.C. Handy/Blues Music Awards in Memphis.
Her second release, Hey Sugar, let fans know that while she was only in her early twenties, she could also tackle alternative country and Americana tunes with virtuosity and aplomb. Her third release was the powerful Can't Control Myself, released in March 2011, just days before her 26th birthday. Sicilia widened her stylistic palette even more with this disc, fusing classic blues, classic R&B, soul, and Americana tunes into a cohesive whole. She included three covers made famous by Bobby "Blue" Bland, Stevie Wonder, and Ike & Tina Turner. Her third album was recorded and engineered by her VizzTone labelmate, multi-instrumentalist, and singer/songwriter Dave Gross at his home studios in northern New Jersey.
Sicilia devoted much of her 2013 full-length album It Wasn't Real to original material, a trend she continued on the 2014 EP The Alabama Sessions, which was recorded in the legendary soul city of Muscle Shoals. In 2016, she switched labels to Blue Elan Records, which released the Sunset Avenue EP in August of that year. ~ Richard J. Skelly

So, it’s not really a total blues record, but I’d think all blues fans and harp players everywhere will have a LOT of fun listening to this as I have. It is at the same time fun and interesting to let Aki take you on his musical adventure of bridging cultures. Consider it a new setting for blues and it’s in a huge party atmostphere provided by Aki and a bunch of excellent top-notch musicians. Many will enjoy Aki’s dissing of Trump in the political blues: All Bark No Bite. I believe Aki knows that to remain silent is to be complicit.
I’ve always been interested in blending blues and especially blues harmonica with music from other cultures and I think Aki has done a rockin’ job here! I’ve always been impressed by Aki’s singing and his harp playing has always been tasteful with great tone and phrasing. Check it out. I wouldn’t steer you wrong. This would be perfect for a party. It’ll have everybody up and dancing and smiling. It’s that much fun!!!

 1. Wonderamaland - 4:08
 2. No Regrets - 3:53
 3. Fireplace, Pool, and Air Conditioning - 4:20
 4. Lullabye - 3:18
 5. It's Hardly Enough - 2:33

 9. Would You Like - 3:01
10. I Wish i Was Your Mother - 3:32
11. Pumps on a Hill - 0:50
12. Stuck in Wonderamaland - 1:05

If you know two Dramarama songs and two only, chances are they are "Anything, Anything" and "Last Cigarette." I already discussed "Anything, Anything" in the review for Cinema Verite. "Last Cigarette" is another college rock anthem. I can't deny that it's a great song. Having admitted that, I must also state that Stuck in Wonderamaland would still succeed as an album without "Last Cigarette."
The only bone I have to pick with Stuck in Wonderamaland is this: they open with a clear closer. The title track is too slow and pensive when you consider the rest of the album. They reprise it at the end of the album, and although I know they meant to bookend the album the reprise feels unnecessary. As soon as the slow and wandering title track is over, the album kicks into some high energy jangly college rock with "No Regrets." The rest of the album feels more like "No Regrets" than it does the title track. If you close with the title track and leave the album with a sort of, "I miss the innocence of childhood and the freedom I knew before life strapped me down" feeling, it makes sense and doesn't feel out of place. As an opener it left me a little bored. Opening tracks should either knock your socks off or build interest in the rest of the album. "Stuck in Wonderamaland" does neither. Aside from that single picking bone, I really enjoyed this album. It rocks in highly enjoyable ways. It's like the gritty cousin of Automatic For the People era R.E.M. I dig it. I dig it big time.
Continuing its regret-tinged look at the life of the almost-famous in L.A., Dramarama on its third album continued polishing its abilities at both straight-ahead rock and gentler affairs on Stuck in Wonderamaland. Beginning and, in a brief acoustic reprise, concluding with the title track, a wistful strum with some prime feedback burn added in the midsection, the band happily turned firmly away from the bad-glam-addled idiocies of late-'80s Sunset Strip sleaze to keep pursuing its own muse. The sly choice of a cover song, Mott the Hoople's bitter, knowing demolition of the rock dream "I Wish I Was Your Mother," betrays the emotional sucker punch prevalent throughout. With no changes outside of the departure of keyboardist Ellenis, adequately replaced here and there by Tommy T, also tackling guitar as needed, the group still kicks with a sharp energy even at its calmest moments. Easdale's signature semi-rasp if anything became even more emotive with time, while the guitar team of Wood and Mr. E Boy remained able to tackle full-on riffing to softer shades with aplomb. Carter's bass work here is some of his best, warm and flowing, while drummer Jesse similarly does the business. The great "Last Cigarette" continues the Dramarama tradition of strong lead singles, hitting and ripping with the prime energy of early New York glam/punk and even earlier rave-ups without sounding dated in the least. Then there's "70s TV," which makes the addiction to such a seeming pit of hell downright cool. When the group tries for calmer material, it does so in ways that make the then-prevalent "power ballad" trend look like the weak cheese it was. "Fireplace, Pool and Air Conditioning" hits a lovely slow burn that sounds like an updated Love if Tom Waits was the lyricist, while "Try" simply shimmers with a gorgeous acoustic/electric combination, a lovely eternal sunset.

 8. Sweet South West Blues - 2:39
 9. Emerald City Sky - 3:44

Australian blues music is in a damn good place right now.  Many of the country’s top blues artists have showcased new material in the last 6 months and now Melbourne’s acoustic blues virtuoso Lloyd Spiegel has released his 8th studio album “Backroads”, the follow up to his 2017 release “This Time Tomorrow”. Spiegel’s variety of blues styles and uses of different guitar sounds throughout the album captivates the listener and this is evident from the first notes of the opening track “The Kick Around”, an up-tempo foot tapper of a song, with a fantastic solo to boot.  “Betcha Bottom Dollar” continues the mood with a real swing-blues shuffle that immediately gets you moving in your seat, with trombone slides playing in the background almost taking us back to the days of jazz.   Spiegel slows it down for the third track “Bridges to Burn”, a deeply moving song with stunning guitar work from start to finish.  “Christina” brings us back to the light with a cheerful song, the highlight being Spiegel’s vocals overlaid with female harmonies. “The Price You Pay” once again returns us to the haunting acoustic blues sound where Lloyd can immerse himself emotionally – this has that deep south feel, and I can imagine walking past a bar on Bourbon Street and being drawn in to hear more.  “Man on Fire” is a slightly quicker track with acoustic & electric sounds entwined to give us another foot tapper, with guitar riffs and solos venturing to the front of this punchy bluesy number. “Candy Cane” keeps the tempo up with nice guitar licks between every few lines that are sung.  Spiegel gets the guitar to sing with every string he picks and plays.  “Sweet South West Blues” takes us back to the roots again with the classic blues sound and almost echoing vocal, simple yet ever so effective – the solos just peel off the guitar with casual ease.  “Beautiful and Dangerous” once again eases us down a bit with a nice melodic track with acoustic rhythm guitar work overlaid with electric solos & riffs. The album finishes with unsuspecting instrumental, “Emerald City Sky”, easing us back to the real world with mellow electro-acoustic sounds and gentle drum work.  It gives you a “lazy Sunday, can’t be bothered to do anything today” kind feel – love it! Lloyd Spiegel has delivered another collection of songs showing the wide spectrum of the blues genre – a kind of something for everyone album.  The “Backroads” tour is well under way with Lloyd playing The Ellington Jazz Club in Perth on Thursday 19th and Fremantle’s The Aardvark (formerly Odd Fellows) on Friday 20th July, before jetting off to New Zealand & Canada.

 7. If Tomorrow Comes (part. II) - 3:48

Its been over 30 years since "NOA" released its 1st album "Tri-Logic" which CD version will be released first time along with this their 2nd album "If Tomorrow Comes" on June 20, 2018. Although they categorize their own music style on this 2nd album as "Progressive Jazz Rock" same as their 1st album, it sounds much more symphonic than 1st.
Huge part of the reason why it does would be that Hirofumi Mitoma, who contributed to the arrangement of music of 1st album, in which themes, rythm and structure were proposed by Ichiro John Paul Takesako, now assumes more responsibility for the composition and arrangement on this 2nd album.
With Yoshiyuki Sakurai (East Wind Pot, HAL, Makoto Kitayama etc.) on Bass and Cher Watanabe (PRISM) on Keyboard, NOA sounds more dramatic, and yet somehow lylical at the same time. It should attract wider range of progressive music followers regardless what they would consider/categorize themselves.

Singer Lizzie Mack came up with songs, which tapped into some classic soul themes: lost love, untrustworthy love and new beginnings. This provides a clue to the appeal of the Soul Movers music. Although a resident of Germany for many years now. Jim Kahr is an important part of the Chicago blues scene of the early seventies. First gaining prominence with his own band, 'Slamhammer', he was, (really!) , the -first- blues act to ever play Chicago's famous 'Kingston Mines',(which was a venue for plays up until then),c.'71. He went on to play with many blues greats, among them Bobby 'Blue' Bland, and is still remembered by many who attended the famous BB King/Bobby Bland concerts of the 70's,(if only as, "Who was that great guitarist with Bland?"). Unfortunately , his records don't receive much promotion; a loss for us all.

In 1995, international blues sensation Big Mike and the Booty Papas began grooving their way into the hearts of audiences the world over.
Based in Macon, Georgia, an area rich in musical heritage, Big Mike and the Booty Papas breathe new life into the genre. The two-time Grammy nominated group is comprised of Michael “Big Mike” Ventimiglia (guitar, vocals), Hal Register (guitar, vocals), Glen “Cuzz” Hutchison (bass guitar, vocals), Jerome “J.T.” Thomas (drums) and Tony Cooper (keyboards). Collectively they’ve been honing their craft for about a hundred years and as they say “the proof is in the puddin’”.
They’re loyal fans will tell you that it only takes one night with Big Mike and the Booty Papas and you’ll be feelin’ just right.  These cats are all about having fun, makin’ you move your feet, a lot of laughin’ and a whole lot of lovin’.
At the core of this seasoned group of musicians is Michael Anthony Ventimiglia better known as “Big Mike”. He’s a big man with a big voice, a big heart and a great, big bunch of people who love him and his music. For over thirty years, he’s been singing and playing everything from blues and R&B to good old classic country. “Big Mike” has done it all and he’s just getting warmed up. Mike will be the first to tell you, he’s no young buck but everyone knows the finer, most beloved things in life are best seasoned with a lifetime of love, a touch of heartache, time and hard work. It doesn’t hurt to have a little swagger to go with it and there’s no shortage of that with “Big Mike” and his fellow Booty Papas.
It seems life was always preparing “Big Mike” for the touring road ahead. Growing up the son of a United States Navy seaman, he moved with his family from base to base never once finishing school in the same place. Starting out in Norfolk, Virginia then on to San Diego, California, Washington, Massachusetts, Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania the family would finally come full circle to settle in Petersburg, Virginia. Some would regret the inability to put down roots but Mike loved meeting new people and seeing new places. There was no time to be shy so he learned to make friends fast. He became the life of the party everywhere he went and left a lasting impression on those who would exit his life as quickly as they had entered. The nomadic lifestyle throughout his childhood was ingrained in him and he grew to love the road, a love that would serve him well in the years to come.
Along with his fondness for the road came an even deeper appreciation for music. While his father was out to sea, his mother would take her children to her parent’s home where they would spend the long months awaiting his return. “Those times with my grandparents hold some of my most treasured memories. Their influence and appreciation for music shaped me in undeniable ways. The support of my family has meant more to me than I can put into words,” says Mike. Mike’s grandmother played guitar and his mother sang with her sisters in the family band. He spent countless hours listening to The Beatles and Elvis records his father’s friends would bring by. Listening to the music that was revolutionizing pop-culture, he found a friend he could take with him no matter where he ended up.
Mike gave his first public performance as a wise man in his 5th grade Christmas pageant. He was twelve years old and he was hooked. There he realized that no matter what city or state he was in, he’d found his home…the stage. He learned to play the drums and at fifteen years old started a garage band with some of the other neighborhood musicians. He was the only one who knew all the words to the songs so he got the job as lead singer. “We didn’t know a lot of songs. In fact, at our first gig we only knew three but we still got paid so…there you go,” Mike remembers with a laugh.
Time flew and Mike continued sharpening his skills with players like Keith Horne, Barney Porter and Bob Lawler in and around the Richmond, Virginia club scene. He traveled the US with The Cosmic Cowboy Band and Roulette sharing the stage with Vern Gosdin, Terri Gibb, David Allen Coe and The Bellamy Bros. In 1985, he made the move to Macon, Georgia and there he would play with The Bare Feet Band and Randy Howard then on to Whiskey River. In Macon, “Big Mike” was in his element playing with the likes of Jamal Thomas, Otis Redding Jr., Dexter Redding and Ricky Burnett. The influence of great artists like Stevie Ray Vaughn, Muddy Waters, Hank Williams and Elmore James became evident as the “Big Mike” sound came to life. The Old Capricorn Studios reopened and “Big Mike”, Ricky Brunette, Hal Register and Finny Hughes launched the blues band, The Vice Grips. Eventually, he made his way back to Whiskey River and the loyal fans kept following.
Throughout his career “Big Mike” penned numerous original songs reflecting his eclectic background in a variety of genres. “If you like it, it’s good. If you don’t like it, it’s bad. I can usually find something good in any kind of music. I feel the same way about what I write. It really doesn’t matter what genre it fits into as long as I hear someone say ‘I really like that song’. When the show is over that’s all that really matters to me,” says Mike. Still, when all is said and done, nothing quite moves him like the blues. It’s those blues originals that have captured the attention of fans and critics alike.
After many long night jam sessions at The Back Porch Lounge, with countless players dropping by to join in, “Big Mike” along with Glenn “Cuzz” Hutchison, Chris Crider, Greg Stewart and Ed Smith made it official and formed the blues band, Big Mike and the Booty Papas. The Sheila Divine - The Morbs

Bitrate: 320K/s
Year: 2015

Size: 97,3 MB
Label: Zippah Records
Styles: Rock/Indie Rock/Alternative Rock
Art: Front

Tracks Listing:
 1. Beautiful Midnight - 5:30
 2. From A Gentleman To A Lady - 3:25
 3. We Took a Ride - 2:22
 4. The Morbs - 3:54
 5. Long Way to Go - 5:38
 6. The Hand - 4:09
 7. Watch Out for Us - 3:15
 8. Shakespeare Underground - 4:46
 9. Ice Age - 3:59
10. End of Tether - 5:22

Alternative rock trio the Sheila Divine officially formed in Boston; guitarist/vocalist Aaron Perrino and drummer Shawn Sears met in a music theory class at Oneonta State University in New York, and Sears ended up managing Perrino's band the Waverlys. That group broke up after a move to Boston, and Perrino formed the Sheila Divine with Oneonta friend Jim Gilbert (bass). Sears eventually replaced their original drummer, and three months later, the group scored a deal with Roadrunner Records. A five-track debut EP was issued in 1998 to establish the group's name prior to the 1999 release of their first full-length, The New Parade.
We try to write about new music just before or right after it comes out. Sometimes we get lazy, or life interferes, and we end up waiting two months to tell you all about a new release from one of our favorite bands. Oops.
Way back on October 2 (or two holiday seasons ago), The Sheila Divine released their first album in three years, The Morbs. The album starts off pretty slowly, with "Beautiful Midnight." To be 100% honest, I was a little concerned as "Beautiful Midnight" sounds a bit more like Aaron Perrino's other band, Dear Leader, than The Sheila Divine. As much as I love Dear Leader's more mellow and electronic side, that's not what I'm looking for in a Sheila Divine album. Luckily, two minutes in and it kicks into a more Sheila Divine worthy anthem, with the chanted and repeated chorus of "Take away take away take it all away."
For some reason, The Sheila Divine always sound better with a shout along chorus. From there, The Morbs is classic, albeit matured, Sheila Divine. "From a Gentleman to a Lady" has an almost classic rock guitar solo, and "We Took a Ride" might be the most punk Sheila Divine have ever sounded. "Watch Out For Us" was released as a single earlier this year, but it a still might be the standout track of the album.

Deep Blues ... That’s what we’ve got, that’s what we play!
In the late eighties Cla Nett (then with the Lazy Poker Blues Band) and Kurt Bislin met for the first time at the legendary Atlantis Music Club in Basel, Switzerland. As a member of the Burton Brothers Blues Band, Kurt Bislin stopped there for a three day stint while touring Europe. On the second night Cla Nett was invited by the Burtons to sit in with the band and he played an outstanding set.
The two kept contact and over the years off and on met on-stage. On one of those long nights of music and talk, to their big surprise they eventually found out they were related … second cousins … their grandfathers had been brothers!

After two CD on Cyclops this is their third release on the label. I wasn't too happy about their two other CDs, because well it all sounded a bit lame and superficial. It turns out to be better this time, and as such is an invitation to listen to their other albums again as well.
Their third on Cyclops, Grace does not wander too much from the trodden paths of their previous efforts: typically English progressive/melodic rock with some folk influences. But where the previous albums did not really touch me enough, this album has enough vitality to it to be at least charming. Coupled with Cardiacs-like joyfulness we easily get an enjoyable album, not very deep, musically, but full of enthusiasm. Contrary to most progressive acts Grace likes the simple up-tempo melodic rock song and I have to admit they pull it off well, with tracks like Burglars and Touch. A song like Resurrection for instance has the energy inherent in Marillions Market Square Heroes (the live version on Real to Reel) and of course the album also has its share of ballads, Heart and Soul for instance (although with a loud chorus), the sweet, folky Secret Garden, and the interesting, Eastern Emily, where the singer reminds me of Bryan Ferry. The album also contains a number of more serious tracks like Oklahoma, about the bombing, that reminds me of Grey Lady Down, The Wolf, and the percussive, Celtic Court of Despair. The drinking song Rich Men Singing might be fun to hear once, but after that its not so interesting. The lyrics are quite good and better than what the average progband can think of.

Eddie Fisher - Eddie Fisher & The Next One Hundred Years

Bitrate: 320K/s
Year: 1970
Time: 34:35
Size: 79,3 MB
Label: Cdet
Styles: Funk/Jazz/Jazz Funk/Soul Jazz
Art: Full

Tracks Listing:
 1. Jeremiah Pucket -  4:39
 2. Land Of Our Father -  5:12
 3. Either Or -  5:40
 4. Another Episode (In The Continuing Story Of Zeke And The Man) -  2:54
 5. Beautiful Things - 12:00
 6. East St. Louis Blues -  4:08

Madly tripped out guitar funk – and a real turning point in the career of guitarist Eddie Fisher! Eddie began his career as a straighter guitarist on the St Louis scene – and although his first album for Cadet was a relatively traditional soul-jazz outing, this one's a wild batch of tripped-out guitar licks! The band's a fuzzy psychedelic one – not in a rock-styled way, but more in an early George Clinton kind of mode, with plenty of rumbling bass at the bottom, warm electric piano lines, nicely placed drum beats, and Eddie's fuzzbox guitar snaking and wah wah-ing over the top! Eddie arranged and produced, and the record's a perfect batch of kicked-back stoner funk numbers that go on and on and on and on! Titles include "Land Of Our Father", "Beautiful Things", "East St Louis Blues", "Another Episode", "Either Or", and "Jeremiah Pucket".
A virtual primer in the art of soul-jazz guitar, Eddie Fisher and the Next Hundred Years is a record of uncommon virtue and consummate skill. A longtime R&B sideman behind greats including Solomon Burke and Albert King, Fisher clearly relishes his turn in the spotlight, unspooling a series of endlessly inventive solos boasting the reach and consciousness of psychedelia. Backed only by an uncredited bassist and drummer, Fisher shifts gears effortlessly, transitioning from nuanced, intimate melodies to wild flights of fancy in the blink of an eye. Songs including "Jeremiah Pucket," "Land of Our Father," and "Either One" twist and turn like rides at an amusement park, achieving a comparable excitement and awe.
