FREE WAVE SYSTEM were a Jazz / Rock quartet out of Turin Italy. Apparently they spent a lot of time touring Northern Italy and were signed to a small local label who released this gem in 1981. It was Finnforest's review that brought this band to my attention. Hey Jim doesn't just give away 4 stars so I figured this must be good, and it's great. It's albums like this that make me appreciate Prog Archives because I can get on here and tell people about how amazing this music is. It's like a release, so yeah this site is often therapy for me. "Oltre Il Tempo" has some killer bass early as sax comes in over top.The guys keep trading off on this uptempo track. "Xenophobia" is led by sax, piano and drums as bass comes in offering support. It picks up 2 minutes in. "La Coda Di Mr. Freeman" has some beautiful sounding piano in it with bass as sax arrives around a minute. The tempo then picks up. Back to the original melody 3 1/2 minutes in. "21 / 5 / 81" is led early by electric piano and drums before the sax joins in this relaxing beginning. It picks up some a minute in but it's still laid back. "Flavours" features all the guys doing their thing in this uptempo tune. Some funky bass a minute in then it settles right down minute later. Love the sax later and the intricate drum work. "Monostante Tuuto" opens with piano as sax joins in. Drums after a minute then the tempo picks up. Killer bass 2 1/2 minutes in. "Fonodipendenza Totale" opens with an excellent drum solo. Sax around a minute then everyone else follows. Great sound. "Mia Zia Frenesio" opens with bass as drums, keys and sax jump in quickly. Love the bass here. Unreal ! "Frammenti" opens with piano as intricate drums join in. Sax leads after 1 1/2 minutes. The tempo picks up 3 minutes in as the bass throbs. Some dissonant sax for the first time follows. "Soft Imagine" begins with piano as drums and bass join in then sax. Fantastic ! Sounds like a second horn in this one. Piano and wind 4 minutes in then back to the full sound. A very enjoyable album.

Founded in Japan in 1980 ( known before as "Tenchi Sozo") - Still active as of 2018.
Ain Soph have always been one of the most highly regarded progressive rock bands from Japan. With album titles like "Hat & Field" and "Ride On A Camel," it's easy to see where their roots lie. The band started in 1970 with the beginning of the progressive rock scene in Japan. The lineup was Yozox Yamamoto on guitars, Kikuo Fujikawa on keyboards, Masahiro Torigaki on bass, and Hiroshi Natori on drums. Calling themselves Tenchi Sozo (which means "the creation"), they played Canterbury-styled progressive rock and jazz-fusion. They recorded a demo over various live dates in the mid 1970s (later released as "Ride On A Camel"), but an official release was elusive. In 1980, Fujikawa left the band and was replaced by Masey Hattori on keyboards. The band changed their name to Ain Soph (Without End) and finally released their first album, "A Story Of Mysterious Forest," which has since come to be considered a classic of the Japanese progressive scene. Hattori left Ain Soph soon after to form the band 99.99. Unfortunately that brought things to a stop and for a number of years it seemed that Ain Soph were no more. Then around 1986 Fujikawa rejoined Yozox and Torigaki along with drummer Taiqui . With renewed energy they recorded and released their second record, "Hat & Field," which was more solidly in the Canterbury style than their first.
This group plays a chamber and fusion Progressive rock in the style of KENSO, HATFIELD AND THE NORTH and CAMEL. Hard to imagine such sound? What are you waiting for… go listen to the band!

Some years ago, what it began as a gathering of friends who longed to return to play in a Rock band, led to the formation of La Barca, name that features direct port city of Rosario as reference. Comprised of musicians with experience and background in different Rosario bands (Sygma, Spirit, Pablo el enterrador, Otonal, Irreal, etc.), La Barca has a musical style rooted in the rich compositions of Symphonic Rock. Among the musical influences, La Barca chooses legendary world of Prog Rock bands like Pink Floyd, Yes, Supertramp, Queen, Genesis, etc. Different scenarios in Rosario were conducive to the live performance of La Barca, standing out among several others Lavarden, Monumento a la Bandera, Asociacion Medica, Rambla Cataluna, etc. La Barca is one of the few bands that provide a complete live show, accompanied by excellent light plant, lasers, special effects, sound and optimal participation as guest musicians, actors and dancers. Their first study CD was presented to the public between March and April 2002, bearing the same name of the band "La Barca". The second album called " Eclosion" was released in 2011, also independently. At the beginning of the year 2018 they premiered "Argentina Nunca Mas", their third audiovisual record work based on the events of the last military dictatorship, officially presented live on March 23 at the Lavarden Platform Theater in the city of Rosario.

 6. To be Continued... -  2:48

Norwegian group, found in 2001 by musicians from the municipalities of Royken, Hurum and Asker in the eastern part of the country. The original line-up was Jean Robert Viita on keyboards/vocals, Arnfinn Isaksen on bass, Morten Loken Clason on multiple instruments, Erik Borgen and Bent Jensen on guitars and Vidar Kleivane on drums. The last quit in 2005, replaced by Svend Hjalmar Borgen, at a time when the group was ready to enter the studio for the recording of its debut. This was a very slow process due to limited time and technical problems, at the end of which Svend Borgen and later Jensen left the group. The remaining guitar parts were played by Erik Borgen and Clason and the rest of the drum parts were recorded with new drummer Sam Arne Noland. Finally, after three years of recordings at the Yellow House Studio in Fredrikstad, ''To be continued...'' was privately released in 2010.
The result of the hard work by the group is more than rewarding. An album full of dynamic, fresh but also a bit of nostalgic Progressive Rock with both modern and analog instruments used, very much close to the music of LEAP DAY, GALLEON or FLAMBOROUGH HEAD.''To be continued...'' is filled with excellent compositions, built around melodic guitars, powerful organs, lovely vocal arrangements and some superb synthesizers. The album even contains a fantastic 21-min. epic, entitled ''A Day in a Hero's Life'', with strong GENESIS, YES and CAMEL inspirations, led by strong breaks, dramatic changes, instant melodies and a very rich and sensitive approach, incorporating influences also from Folk Music and Heavy Rock. But the remaining pieces are actually on the same level, full of delicate flutes, smooth organ and intricate guitar ideas to go along with quite decent vocals. The instrumental passages are also a highlight of the album. The strong sense of melody combined with the haunting atmosphere often created by the musicians result to extended instrumental themes, which cannot do else but capture the listener' attention and emotion. Starving for some Classic Prog transformed into recent years? The Windmill were established for this reason and their debut belongs definitely among the best 2010 releases.Great stuff and highly recommended.

Krzysztof Pakula - drums

The Last King" i "Mirrage Avenue". Dodało to utworowi szlachetności i filmowości.
Najostrzejszy na krążku jest "The Last King". Uderzają ciężkie gitarowe riffy, sekcja Krzysztofa Pakuła i Ryszarda Łabula (basista znany z Indios Bravos zastąpił Marka Żaka) gra naprawdę masywnie, a solówki Grzegorczyka łapią rockowy sznyt. Aczkolwiek wersja koncertowa miała chyba więcej mocy. Bezpośrednią kontynuacją brzmienia "The Last King" będzie zamykający album "White Elephant", ponownie z podostrzonymi gitarami i naprawdę świetnymi partiami basu.
Przecież "Midnight Syndrome", brzmieniem klawiszy i motoryką sekcji przypominający nieco środkową część "Sheep" Pink Floyd, to jakby zilustrowana muzyką podróż pośród gwiazd Ijona Tichego.
Lebowski to wciąż kapitalny, wielobarwny art-rock - czerpiący z muzyki ilustracyjnej, filmowej, post rocka i rocka progresywnego.

Kinetic Element is a neo/symphonic progressive rock band from Richmond, Virginia that harbors musical roots in classic artists like Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Yes, Asia and Genesis and blends those influences with philosophical and spiritually powerful and uplifting lyrics. They are a known act in the prog rock genre with two major festival appearances under their belt.
Kinetic Element was formed to perform the music of Mike Visaggio's solo CD, "Starship Universe" which was released in 2006 after Mike was selected to perform at the 2006 Pop Montreal festival. Although they are no longer performing the music on that CD, they do perform selected classic prog and classic rock covers and their new prog pieces they have put together since they formed which comprise "Powered By Light" (2009) and their current CD entitled "Travelog" (2015). The cover art for both CDs was executed by the very talented Martin Kornick. "Powered by Light" was nominated for Best Debut CD of 2009 by The Prog Awards, which was at that time an Italian reviews website. They were signed to Melodic Revolution Records at ROSfest 2013. The band is comprised of St. John Coleman (vocals), Mike Visaggio (keyboards); Michael Murray (drums), Todd Russell (electric and acoustic guitar) and Mark Tupko (basses). In May 2008 the original incarnation of KE was privileged to be a support act for Circa (featuring Tony Kaye and Alan White of Yes, at Jaxx in northern Virginia), Rare Blend (at Orion Studios in Baltimore, Maryland one of prog’s must-play venues), and IZZ (who have played every prog festival in America, at the Artomatic festival in Washington, D.C.) In 2009, KE's Powered by Light lineup supported Morglbl (at Capitol Ale House Music Hall in Richmond VA) and in 2010, with Edensong (at Orion again). Kinetic Element opened the nation’s longest running prog rock festival, Prog Day, at the Pre-Show on August 29, 2008 with Speechless and again on Sept. 3, 2010 with Jack Dupon. They played The Magic Room in Boston in November 2011 as headliner, with suppport acts Eccentric Orbit and Resistor. They were invited to play the first Ohio Prog festival to be held in September 2012 before the festival was unfortunately cancelled. In 2015 KE has headlined at Orion Studios again (May 29) with support band Brave, and supported Lo-Fi Resistance at New Jersey Proghouse (June 6). Kinetic Element was featured in Progression Magazine #59.
Kinetic Element opened Friday Night at the Rites of Spring Festival (ROSfest) on May 7, 2016, and was the Sunday opener at the Terra Incognita festival on May 2, 2016. They performed at Progtoberfest on October 22, 2017.
On their second album, titled Travelog, released on June 1, 2015, vocals were recorded by guests Dimetrius LaFavors of Odin's Court, Michelle Schrotz of Brave, and solo artist Mike Florio.(St. John Coleman had not yet joined the group.) They engaged the profligate talent of the two gentlemen at the heart of symphonic prog legends Glass Hammer, Fred Schendel and Steve Babb, to mix the new CD at their Sound Resources studio in Chattanooga, TN. It may be heard in its entirety at http://melodicrevolutionrecords.com/album/travelog.
Kinetic Element has begun recording pieces for their third album to be entitled "The Face of Life." They anticipate a release early in 2019.

Since I first listened to Focus’ 2017 release, The Focus Family Album, I’ve been looking forward to the band’s new release, Focus 11. That’s because that double album, which was an odd compilation of sorts, included a little tease of what was to come, with each of the two discs concluding with a track from Focus 11. Both tracks – “Clair-Obscur” and “Winnie” – were intriguing and got me excited for this new release. Now that I’m getting to enjoy the full disc, I find that basically the entire album is engaging. All of the tracks here are originals, most of them written by Thijs van Leer. Most tracks are instrumentals.
The album opens with “Who’s Calling?” which begins like a hard rocking song with that steady guitar. But what sticks out for me about this track is Pierre van der Linden’s impressive work on drums. It’s a decent track, but for me, the following tune, “Heaven,” is when things begin to get really good. This is a playful and delightful tune, with different sections, beginning with a kind of funky rhythm which I dig, and some great touches on keys. Then approximately a minute in, it takes on something of the joy and merriment of an old-time festival, and completely raises my spirits. I love this. The tune then builds from there, and there is more excellent work on percussion. Toward the end, there is suddenly some playful vocal work as well. This track just gets better and better as it develops and moves through its different sections. Heaven, indeed!
“How Many Miles?” is a good, solid, driving rock song, with some great stuff on flute rising above that rhythm. This is the only track on the album to include lyrics, and it turns out to be a love song of sorts. Check out these lines: “Let me reflect your energy/That moves my soul to ecstasy/Let me become your melody.” Toward the end, some of the lines are delivered basically as spoken word, and that turns out to be really effective. “How Many Miles?” is followed by “Mazzel.” I really dig the unusual rhythm here, which moves this jazzy tune in interesting directions. This is one that might get you dancing, but it is going to be a delightfully odd dance.
“Winnie” is one of the tracks that I first heard on The Focus Family Album. It has darker, unsettling feel at first, then rises out of that haunted land to a prettier realm when the flute takes over. The flute has a gentle, comforting sound. But we’re not out of the woods yet, as they say, as we still have to find our way through the maze. But at the end, that electric guitar escapes, and takes us all with it. Then “Palindrome” begins with some cool work on drums. This one is really driven by the drums, and includes a drum solo, which of course helps to make it one of my favorite tracks. That’s followed by “Clair-Obscur,” the other track that was included on The Focus Family Album. This one has an unusual mood, feeling introspective at moments, then reaching out and upward. It is quite pretty at times.
The only track not written by Thijs van Leer is “Mare Nostrum,” which was composed by bass player Udo Pannekeet, the newest member of the band. This one begins slowly, then partway through it changes gears and takes on a wonderfully frantic feel, and features some excellent playing. The album concludes with its title track, “Focus 11,” which also happens to be the eleventh track. This is another of my favorites. It has something of a sweet vibe at the start, and picks up at moments, feeling joyful. It is a kind of warm tune to leave us all in a good place.

This is a simply lovely album from a UK outfit with a blues-cum-Americana outlook, feel and beauty. Fronted by guitarist and songwriter Richard Townend, the band is tightly controlled with hints of seventies US, West Coast, Laurel Canyon sounds and sensibilities.
In many ways this has a Knopfleresque feel but, having been listening to this outfit for some years now, it is surely time to shrug aside that sort of thinking. Maybe, and probably inevitably, Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits have been influences and interests back in the past, but Townend has clearly slipped off that yolk and moved on with his own distinctive style and delicious delivery.
Townend is a mighty clever lyricist, a guy who can work a theme and run a rippling roll of fretwork and melody to match the thinking. The result is a genuinely individual and engaging musical take and outlook. I must confess to being a fan and advocate of this band and its music. With ‘God Bless America’ it seems evident that they have moved ahead, running onto a new path of irresistible modern, top notch music, always with a blues edge at heart but aided by a keen eye towards the  Americana future. This is a true delight, an album to savour.

Hailing from Waltham, Mass., Seth Rosenbloom follows up on a previous EP with this album, which should be a welcome change of pace for anyone who loves red-hot guitar but has grown weary of a world dominated by over-the-top blues-rockers. Rosenbloom is the son of classical violinists and studied the instrument himself. His interest in guitar began at age 11 when he saw the Jack Black movie, School Of Rock. He saved his pennies and bought an Ibenez SG soon after. He became fascinated with progressive metal, but turned to the blues after witnessing Joe Bonamassa in concert at age 13.
A quick study on six-string, Seth started playing in bands in high school, and was only 16 when he drew notice of Boston’s prestigious Berklee College Of Music, which awarded him a scholarship based on his merit as a performer. He spent years developing his skills as a sideman in several bands in New England, Tennessee and North Carolina, and has become a popular clinic instructor. Recorded at guitar master Josh Smith’s Flat V Studios in Reseda, Calif., this CD includes six tasty originals and three well-executed and reconfigured covers. Rosenbloom’s guitar play features tasty single-note runs delivered slightly behind the beat, and his vocals follow suit in a warm tenor. He’s backed here by a top West Coast rhythm section — bassist Travis Carlton (Steve Perry, Chris Cain and Robben Ford) and drummer Gary Novak (David Crosby, Jessy J and Fantasia) – with Scott Kinsey (Manhattan Transfer) on keys. They’re augmented by Smith, who provides rhythm on two cuts, and a horn section composed of Jamelle Adisa (trumpet) and Don Boissy (sax). Backing vocals are delivered by Raquel Rodriguez and Vanessa Bryan, and Alan Hertz contributes tambourine on one cut. “For me, playing the blues is all about expressing emotions,” Rosenbloom says. “That is the key to making great music overall and great blues in particular.” It’s evident from the first notes that he practices what he preaches. The unhurried slow blues “Keep On Turning,” one of three originals here penned with Sonya Rae Taylor, opens the action. The theme’s very mature: that you should count your blessings, watch your tongue, stay true to yourself and take advantage of what you can while you’re young because time waits for no one. Seth’s mid-tune solo is soaked with emotion, but so brief it leaves you yearning for more.
The action heats up for “Crawling Back,” a medium-tempo blues-rocker about a lady who tries to return after walking away. Rosenbloom drives home his message that she’s no longer welcome with stinging six-string fills and runs. The loping stop-time shuffle “I Can’t Help It” continues the message as Seth announces he’s focused on someone else. The horns make their first appearance for a swinging cover of B.B. King’s “Heartbreaker” before another slow-blues original , “Right About Now,” which enables Seth space to stretch out vocally before his six-string skills come into play with brief mid-tune solo and an extended ending runs. Next up, the guitar hook to Elmore James’ “Look Over Yonders Wall” comes through loud and clear throughout, but the song gets a funky new stop-time treatment. Rosenbloom’s sterling break would put a smile on the master’s face. The slow-blues pleaser “Broke And Lonely” offers up hope for anyone pursuing a dream before the medium-tempo “Come Back Around” delivers a plea for a lady to return from an all-night, head-clearing ride. The album concludes with an updated, uptempo cover of Leon Russell, Don Nox and Duck Dunn’s “Palace Of The King,” most famously recorded by B.B. Seth Rosenbloom is a guitar player’s guitar player. His ceiling is unlimited. Available through Amazon and iTunes, this CD is a welcome addition for any lover of true blues. Strongly recommended.

20-year-old progressive rock composer Jarod Fedele begins his journey into the unexplored realms of rock music with his debut instrumental album, "A Collection of Color." These songs are organized more-or-less chronologically, and date back to his first song which was written at age 16. The album conveys a simple concept - each song provides a different environment than the rest, and in totality paints a vivid picture of a musical painting. This album was recorded and played almost exclusively by Fedele on his synthesizer, with the exception of a couple guest musicians and carefully programmed drums.

11. Hey Joe (live) - 10:19

Sadly this is a posthumous release by a very talented guitarist from the United Kingdom. Roger Hill passed away in November 2011 working for ten years as guitarist for The Chris Barber Jazz Band, as well as a brief stint with Fairport Convention among other bands. Being as this is the first time I’m hearing of him it is a shame that someone that rose to such a high caliber of musicianship didn’t amass more recognition. On these live recordings of covers he plays with various drummers and bass players in a strictly trio format except for one vocal turn by New Waver Steve Gibbons.
His capable voice comes across like a less subdued Mose Allison on “I Got A Gal”. His jazz guitar side is displayed on this track. The strong version of John Lee Hooker’s “Dimples” showcases the clean recording separation of the instruments. J.J. Cale’s “The Same Old Blues” features some sturdy bass playing to support Roger’s guitar greatness. His former boss Steve Gibbons contributes a cheeky vocal to the old standard “Ain’t She Sweet”, that features some jazzy guitar playing. “Three Thirty Blues” is a lowdown slow blues burner instrumental.
Slow, bluesy and jazzy is their take on “St. Louis Blues”. The vocal is coarse and the song goes up and down in intensity on “Evening”. The Mose Allison reference comes in once again as Roger covers “Sticks & Stones”, a Ray Charles tune also known as done by Joe Cocker. It includes some spot on blues guitar. He does an able cover of Jimmy Reed’s “Runnin” & Hidin’”, while taking a few liberties with the lyrics. A curious cover song is The Clash’s “Brand New Cadillac” that features some raucous guitar antics. Although his version of “Hey Joe” builds in its attack it leaves out any Hendrix like guitar pyrotechnics.
Quite a master of guitar technique is on display here, but sadly it came too late to our American ears. Too bad he went under the radar here in the states. As far as I know this live recording is the only thing he had put out. At least this live presentation goes a long way to honor his contribution to music. Tea Leaf Green - Living in Between

Bitrate: 320K/s
Year: 2003
Time: 50:54
Size: 118,8 MB
Label: Self Released

 1. The Garden I - 2:48

 9. Been So Long - 6:26
10. Beehive - 4:15
11. The Garden II - 3:36

Living in Between, Tea Leaf Green's third studio album and fourth disc overall, begins very much the way its predecessor, Midnight on the Reservoir, left off. The final track on that album was the spacy instrumental "Sleepwalker," which recalled the Grateful Dead's "space" sound collages. "Garden I" begins with much the same feel, but then it abruptly turns into a forceful, if complex rocker, as if the band was making the point that this album is not going to be like its predecessor. And indeed, it is not. A jam band with a self-proclaimed jones for ‘70s rock, Tea Leaf Green launched its recording career with a self-titled CD that was surprisingly song-based and surprisingly tentative, while Midnight on the Reservoir, which followed, went aggressively in the opposite direction, boasting several "songs" that were basically platforms for extended jamming. Maybe the release of a live album, Friday June 6, 2003: Live at Slim's, San Francisco CA, gave the band an outlet for the improvisations, since Living in Between is again more song-based, although it displays a group with a much more confident approach to playing (or at least more confidence in the studio) than Tea Leaf Green. As the title suggest, the band seems to be finding a way to address both its need to come up with strong, distinct compositions and its desire to just let fly as a jam band.

On May 14th Tea Leaf Green dropped their eighth studio album In The Wake. Funded in part by a successful Kickstarter.com campaign this multi-year project is the first to feature the band’s new quintet arrangement. With the addition of Cochrane McMillan on percussion, Tea Leaf Green has set out on a mission to create a new and unique sound. In The Wake is a deeply personal account of the band’s struggles and triumphs from its opening line in Someday: “Someday, I’m going to catch a break.”
The opening track of the album sounds at first like another classic Tea Leaf ballad, accentuated by the powerful lyrics of Keyboardist/Vocalist Trevor Garrod. However, the underlying percussive drive of McMillan becomes apparent, drawing attention to the professional level sound mixing of Jeremy Black (Apollo Sunshine). Track two is the first of Guitarist/Vocalist Josh Clark’s space themed tunes that litter the record. A literal one-hundred-and-eighty degree turn from Someday, Space Hero II features heavy guitar chords and thumping percussion.
Penny Saved follows and is the first track that really grabs the listener’s attention. Laced with a strong violin track and a prominent horn section, the song is the band’s most intricate display of composition to date.  The upbeat tune features a prevailing bass solo by Reed Mathis, whose tone has become a staple of the band’s new sound. All of My Love features more of Tea Leaf Green’s fresh compositional direction, but seems too distant from the overall sound of the rest of the record. Driven by a strong violin track, it is hard to imagine how the band will recreate this tune on stage.
The title song follows and does little more than weaken the middle of the album. However, In The Wake features an interesting percussion line and as a whole takes on a very “Beck-like” sound. Saving the heart of the record is the bands first single Give Me One More Chance. The tune features Lesley Grant on vocals, giving the easygoing tune some real potential to be a radio hit. The track is a true conglomerate of Tea Leaf Green’s individual talents, with strong vocals by Garrod, catchy slide guitar by Clark, and backed by a fresh beat from the trio of Mathis, McMillan, and drummer Scott Rogers.
Reed Mathis’ One Condition’s Enough follows and once again features a driving horn section. Although having been a member of the band since 2007, hearing Mathis’ vocals on a Tea Leaf Green record is a new experience. The catchy song has a lot of potential and works nicely to carry the listener into the last half of the record. A smooth transition leads to Space Hero III. Clark punctuates the trippy ambience of the song with acoustic guitar, providing a fresh sound for both himself as a musician and the band as a whole. Two Parts continues the spacy-acoustic tone, wandering through several interesting sections of music, led continuously by Garrod’s soft vocals.
The album’s tenth track, Don’t Go, pushes the ambient rock sound even further. Mathis takes another shot, leading the band with the personal tone of his lyrics. The final chapter of Clark’s Space Hero comes next with Space Hero IV. The most straight forward rock & roll song of the entire record is charged with a powerful solo from Clark, and has true potential to explode in a live setting. Mr. E and The Cosmic Receptacle is a very obscure tune that returns to the space-rock theme underlying the record. However, the band makes a solid rebound to finish the album with We Aren’t Done. Garrod closes the record with an extremely catchy pop-rock song that showcases his lyrical prowess that never seems to dwindle.
There is no doubt that In The Wake is unlike anything Tea Leaf Green has done before. The level of musical composition, intricacy of sound mixing, and representation of each band member is unmatched by any of the band’s previous work. The band who has been searching for a new sound and musical direction has finally found it. While they will certainly lose the interest of fans who live for the lengthy improvisational jams that were once a staple of Tea Leaf Green, the band is sure to gather a fresh audience who will appreciate the intricate and unique sound they have carved out for themselves. Nevertheless, Tea Leaf Green has always been more of a live act than a studio band, which creates a lot of anticipation to see how these new songs will evolve on stage.

Eric Schenkman left the Spin Doctors following the dismal performance of their second album Turn It Upside Down in 1994. He drifted for a few years, playing the occasional session, before returning in the pan-generation supergroup Cork in 1995. Essentially, Cork is simply Schenkman and former Mountain drummer Corky Laing, but for much of their debut album Speed of Thought, they're joined by bassist Noel Redding of the Jimi Hendrix Experience; whenever he doesn't appear, Schenkman handles the four strings. Cork apply jam band mentality to '70s hard rock. They turn up the volume, strengthen the attack, and make it blusey, while still concentrating on loose-limbed jams. The results are mixed, to say the least. There's little question that the trio are very talented -- anyone who had doubts about Schenkman, believing that he was just a pop guitarist, should be impressed by his performance here -- but the record often sounds forced and even silly. Much of the fault lies in the songs themselves, which are hackneyed hard rockers that often feel like excuses to jam, but the delivery is often unconvincing, particularly since both Schenkman and Laing favor strained bloozeman posturing. Which leaves the playing itself, which is often quite good. It's not all straight live performances, but it often feels like it -- and, from the sound of it, they would make for a good live band, since they gain energy when they're simply playing. Problem is, those stretches don't appear often enough to make Speed of Thought a particularly interesting album -- it holds potential, but rarely delivers on it.(https://www.allmusic.com/album/release/speed-of-thought-mr0000114205)

Brotherly Love, a love letter to the Southern music scene and to the city and people of Macon, Georgia.
“Brotherly Love” is Kunio Kishida’s 9th album and marks another chapter in Kunio’s long term love affair with Southern rock and blues. For lovers of that music, vintage guitar tone, and beautiful musicianship and guitar playing, “Brotherly Love” is the real deal.
Backing Kunio are veteran and venerable musicians of the Southern music scene; Chuck Leavell of The Allman Brothers and The Rolling Stones, Paul Hornsby from The Hour Glass, and Eddie Stone of Wet Willy are on keyboards. Jerry Wasley, Kunio’s long time bassist, and Scott Boyer of Cowboy, who sings a poignant ‘Please Be With Me, lend their talents along with a host of other seasoned and talented musicians. And at the center of it all is Kunio and his guitar.
Kunio is an aficionado of the blues, R&B and rock and roll born of South and a lover of vintage guitar tones, which shine on every track with great feeling, nuance and passion that comes from his many years of dedicated playing. Kunio’s long term partner ‘Nancy’, a beautiful 1959 Gibson Sunburst Les Paul and a classic 1954 Fender Stratocaster can be heard on ‘If You Leave Me’ and ‘Macon Flag’ as can a 1958 Gibson Explorer (once owned by Eric Clapton and featured on the album cover)..
So, if you love Southern rock, blues and the sound of vintage guitars, ‘Brotherly Love’ is a treat for your ears and your soul. Give it a listen! (https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/kuniokishida8)

Nathan Beretta is a man whose blues guitar stylings are some of best around Melbourne town, and even though at times he sounds a little too Stevie Ray Vaughan-ish it's more a case of wearing his influences unashamedly on his sleeve rather than trying to clone a particular sound. One of the founding members of the award winning Blues Eyes Cry Nathan has struck out on his own and released the aptly titled Where I Belong.
This album is simply infectious! It boogies, shuffles and grooves in all the right ways and in all the right places. Unsurprisingly the guitar playing on this release is a big focus is front and centre in the mix, but what is perhaps surprising is the quality of the Vocals. While it's unlikely you will see Nathan on any TV singing competitions in the near future, he has a distinct singing voice which he uses to great effect on this album.
While I have thoroughly enjoyed the 2 releases by Blues Eyes Cry to date with the smoking Vocals of Isuela, who would probably be in with more than a fighting chance of winning any singing competition she was to enter, if this is what we can expect from Nathan Beretta solo releases I look forward to hearing the next one.
