Gulf Coast Records is excited to announce the signing of Contemporary Blues Artist Albert Castiglia. Albert’s new release ‘MASTERPIECE’ was recorded at MARZ Studio in Nederland, Texas with musician/producer Mike Zito. Albert Castiglia is pure emotion.
He wears his heart on his sleeve and lets his guitar do the talking”, says Zito. ‘Masterpiece’ is a raw, deeply personal album for Albert who recently lost his grandmother but simultaneously discovered he had a daughter. This significant life altering event was the springboard for Albert to hone his songwriting skills on Masterpiece with nine deeply meaningful original songs. Mike Zito and Guy Hale, founders of Gulf Coast Records, knew instantly that Masterpiece was exactly the type of record we wanted on our label. We are extremely proud to add Albert Castiglia on Gulf Coast Records’ growing roster of artists and look forward to releasing this ground-breaking new album.
‘Masterpiece’ is the pinnacle in a career that’s just taking form, it is his best and most personal work to date. I’m proud of this album and proud to call him one of my closest friends. — Mike Zito

Strangefolk - Coast To Coast

Bitrate: 320K/s
Year: 2002
Time: 70:23
Size: 161,3 MB
Label: Self Released
Styles: Rock/Jam Band

Tracks Listing:
 1. First Time -  8:58
 2. Leave A Message -  8:17
 3. In Deep - 16:14
 4. Anchor -  7:45
 5. Get You Movin' -  4:40
 6. Come On Down - 11:56
 7. Water - 12:29

Originally formed as an acoustic duo "Strange Folk" in 1991, Strangefolk (now one word) added bass and drums within a year and took to playing the bars in and around the vibrant musical community of Burlington, Vermont. The band rounded out its sound further in 2000 by adding keyboards to the lineup. Strangefolk has since built a national following based on the impressive sales from five studio CD releases (The Demo Album, Lore, Weightless in Water, A Great Long While, and Open Road), and two live releases (Coast to Coast Volumes I and II), a rigorous touring schedule, and an annual festival that attracts thousands which the band has funded, promoted, and hosted for ten years called Strangefolk's Garden of Eden. The Music At the heart of Strangefolk's songwriting is a seamless blend of narrative lyrical content and inventive melody. Rock, folk, blues, and bluegrass influences converge to create an instantly recognizable sound, which keeps Strangefolk's listeners moving from start to finish. When punctuated with Strangefolk's trademark three-part harmonies and soaring lead guitars, the band's unique songwriting ability develops a natural avenue for the band to extend themselves in a live setting. The result is one of the more gratifying live music experiences around. Their latest project, Coast to Coast Volume II showcases the band's depth, variety, and continued growth as songwriters and musicians. Jon Trafton - Guitar, Vocals Articulating the "strange" aspect of Strangefolk, Trafton has developed a highly original and captivating lead guitar style. Jon's playing is both thoughtful and emotionally charged, shifting easily from tasteful accompanying licks during verses to screaming impact when a solo peaks. Jon's songwriting contributions feature an intriguing blend of pop, rock and country elements. Luke Patchen Montgomery - Acoustic & Electric Guitar, Vocals With influences like Stephen Stills, Michael Hedges, Cat Stevens and The Beatles, it's no wonder that Luke possesses such a powerful, yet tasteful vocal style along with some blazing guitar chops. Luke incorporates open tunings and flat-picking into his playing style and injects incredible energy and emotion into the band's improvisational jams. Erik Glockler - Bass Guitar, Vocals Glockler's style of bass playing is both grounding and melodic. Erik locks down the groove of each song with force, and when the time comes to stretch out live, he improvises melodies up and down the frets to weave a complex tapestry that complements Trafton, Montgomery and Scott. Glockler has penned many Strangefolk tunes and sings with a raw and textured voice, which lends an edge to the Strangefolk sound. Russ Lawton - Drums Russ grew up in the Boston area where he began drumming professionally, and studying with Gene Roma from the Newton Percussion Academy. Early in his career, Russ played in the band Zzebra formed by Nigerian born Lofty Amao from the London based group Osibisa. Lofty's afro-fusion group Zzebra based in Burlington Vermont toured the East Coast for several years before moving to LA. In recent years, Russ has been touring with Trey Anastasio of Phish and the Gordon Stone Band. Russ also keeps busy as a studio drummer and has played on the independent movies Mud Season, Mike Gordon's Outside Out, and the LA movie Left Hand Path. Don Scott - Keyboards Don utilizes styles ranging from jazz and rock to bluegrass and honky-tonk to create blistering solos, rich textures and funky rhythms. Preferring to stand while he plays, Don's passion and energy create a dynamic performance experience. He plays with a feel and passion that compliments other instruments in a way uniquely his own. Swirling keys and rolling Hammond organ combine to lay down a groove or bring songs to an explosive climax. His influences draw from artists like Bruce Hornsby, Oscar Peterson, Brent Mydland, Herbie Hancock and Ray Manzarek, to name a few.

Musicians:
Kelly Z - Vocals;
Perry Robertson - Guitar;
Matt Mcfadden - Bass;
Mike Sauer - Drums.

Can’t Take my Soul’ began as a journey to feature a four piece band without all the bells and whistles of the 9 piece Kelly’s Lot. Wanting more touring in the future, Kelly and Perry knew less players in the band would make that possible. But as the recording process moved forward some songs were asking for more. The French inspired accordion was a must on ‘Mon Ami’ which opened the door to adding a cajun inspired accordion on ‘Woe Is Me’. Kelly asked Perry to dig deep and conquer all the guitar parts but Perry demanded Rob Zucca’s magic on Rise Up (Leve Toi). Broke Myself always screamed for Frank Hinojosa on the Harp to bring an edgy blues track to the album and Bobby Orgel came into to add piano and B3 to 4 songs. Alyssa, who was the inspiration for the 3rd track on the album, was the reason for the background vocals. To honor her family, Kelly included her brother and sister on the track and Jeri Goldenhar stepped in for the 3rd voice.

The Sunny Wine Session, the new T-Roosters' job, is a dark blues potion cooked in the spring sun, with a bottle of wine always available, the texts scattered on the table and the guitars among the skilled hands of Tiziano Galli, but with feet ideally immersed in the waters of the Mississippi Bayou, where fat alligators doze waiting for the right moment to look for prey. The thirteen songs of the Cd, all composed by Tiziano Galli and Paolo Cagnoni, tell current stories as is typical of the blues, and tell of past loves and of an increasingly confused world, but also of hopes and dreams that never die. Echoes of swamp, intense forays into the New Orleans land and in the Golden Age of Chicago are filtered by the originality of writing, which characterizes the path of a band grown over the years to develop a personal and immediately recognizable language. The voice of Tiziano Galli, dark and spicy, perfectly emphasizes the "black" color of this work, well supported by the imaginative and

Lazarus Wolf - West Coast Blues Man

 5. The Rooster - 2:39
 6. My Crying Guitar - 3:11
 7. Come Back To Me - 4:42
 8. Red, White & Blues - 3:44

The blues are everywhere. Anyone who has suffered misfortune in their life is a candidate for the blues. As his name might suggest, Lazarus Wolf has come back from a dark place and has seen the light. There is nothing complex about the songs. He sings of getting back what you have lost in "I'm Coming Home". "Rooster" is for the ordinary wage slaves amongst us. His guitar work on "My Crying Guitar" put us in mind of Gary Moore. The best track to our ears was "Trailer Park Rhapsody". It has everything that a good blues song should contain - biblical references, the devil and a quality guitar riff.
About as lo-fi and real as you can get these days, Lazarus Wolf keeps things raw and simple. One man and his blues is what you get. Singing louder with his guitar than his voice, he tells us all his story.

Guitarist Bennie Smith has been a staple in the world of St. Louis blues for 50 years. In addition to his own Shook Up album from Fedora, the native son of the musical city can be heard on Mean Disposition from Big Bad Smitty, "Shook Up Over You" from Jimmy "Soul" Clark, and "Boxtop" by Ike Turner. "Boxtop" was the first song recorded by Tina Turner, who was billed at the time as Little Ann.
Smith was born into a family of 14 children. The first instrument he played was a ukulele that a cousin passed on to him, and later he played an old acoustic guitar that was given to him by one of his brothers. He started picking up techniques and tips from musicians around St. Louis, first from Butch McCray. He met two brothers, named Doc Perry and George Perry, and soon stumbled upon Ace Wallace, who gave him instruction on how to handle the guitar. Soon he started performing with the Perry brothers and later won a spot in the Roosevelt Marks Band. Toward the latter half of the '50s, Smith became a member of Tommy Brown & the Teardrops. He played the Club Peacock in Atlanta with the band, and traveled to gigs in Florida and elsewhere in Georgia. Also in the '50s, Smith fronted a band that featured Chuck Bernard and Chuck Berry.
Smith's playing can be heard on a number of artists' recordings on labels such as Teek Records and Tune Town. He has performed with Aretha Franklin, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Little Milton, Bill Doggett, Matt "Guitar" Murphy, Charles Brown, Rufus Thomas, Bobby "Blue" Bland, and Amos Milburn, among others. The Urban Soul of Bennie Smith, his first album, was released in 1993. For four consecutive years beginning in 1993, he appeared with Urban Blues Express at the Holland festival known as Blues Estafette. In addition to Smith on vocals and guitar, the band includes keyboardist Rory Johnson, vocalist and bassist Sharon Foehner, and vocalist and drummer Marty Spikener.~ Linda Seida

11. Following the Sun - 4:29
12. Times Like This - 4:52

The cover art of 47 Stones, the latest release from Australia’s Dean Haitani, tells you all you need to know about the album. It features our guitar hero striking a chill pose between two pumps at an old gas station, with two guitars flanking him like stylish bookends. Meaning? His style’s a smooth mix of retro and contemporary, low-key, almost mellow but not quite. The photo shows Dean standing in the shadows. Several of the twelve tracks here have a dark tinge, a melancholy tone. With clear vocal diction and clearer feeling, Haitani takes us on a journey through the twilight shades of the blues. It’s not nighttime yet – not time for rip-roaring, string-breaking shreds – but that’s okay. Most of the songs are original compositions, with a couple classics (“The Thrill is Gone” and Little Feat’s “Dixie Chicken”) thrown in for good measure.
Dean was born in a small town in Victoria, Australia where his earliest influence was his father, James, who played the piano, harmonica and piano accordion. His mother was also a good singer, but neither of his parents played music professionally. Dean listened to a lot of music on the radio, such as pop music and Australian bands like Cold Chisel, Goanna, and Paul Kelly. However, it was Dean’s first guitar teacher, Steve Brown, that introduced Dean to the Blues, hooking him via B.B. King’s Live at Cook County Jail.
Some of his professional accolades include being a finalist for the Sony BMG songwriting competition, being the guitarist for Tania and Fiona Kernaghan, the Vic/Tas Blues Awards, Frankston Guitar Festival, Bay Of Islands Blues Festival, Bridgetown Blues Festival, Bruthen Blues Festival, and the Great Southern Blues & Rockabilly Festival.
Yours truly couldn’t find an extensive list of the musicians alongside Haitani on 47 Stones. In spite of this, the following songs constitute the best of the best in terms of blues and blues rock.
Track 01: “Sweet Little Angel” – With guitar reminiscent of Tim “Too Slim” Langford from Too Slim and the Taildraggers, the CD’s opening number is a bit of a surprise. It’s got the best electric licks in the Land Down Under, backed up by a superb horn section and powerful piano. It could have held its own as an instrumental, but when Dean starts singing, the magic continues. “Send me a sweet little angel, I’ve got a devil in my shoes…sweet little woman, take away these midnight blues.”
Track 05: “Don’t Lie Down (Unless You’re Dying)” – Fake people are the worst, and Haitani knows it. Whether they’re trying to peddle sham products or their own sham-selves, our protagonist has a word of advice: “They’ll take you for a dollar, give you a dime. Crocodile smile, but it ain’t no crime…If they’re selling, you ain’t buying. Don’t lie down unless you’re dying.” This Chicago-style ditty will make non-dying people want to get out on the dance floor.
Track 10: “Dixie Chicken” – Time for some Southern spice, courtesy of Little Feat and Dean Haitani. What’s the best part of this cover? Everything, but especially the piano and percussion. The original artists would be proud, as is Ms. Wetnight, who liked Little Feat as a young ‘un.
47 Stones is a chill collection of contemporary blues, rock, and Australian-style Americana! (http://www.bluesblastmagazine.com/dean-haitaini-47-stones-album-review/)
