In his debut album, Shades of Blue, Minet sought to capture his take on many of the standards of the genre that have influenced his early years. In doing so, he also hoped to pay tribute to his home of Syracuse, NY. With a long history as a vibrant blues scene, Syracuse has shaped him into the musician he is today and continues to provide him with the foundation for his career in the genre. In addition to Minet’s musical direction of the album, his partner in crime, Shane Patterson, played an equally important role in the project both on the bass and in the control room. At only 19, Patterson has already established himself as both a versatile bass player and a skillful hand in the studio. Having now gigged throughout Central New York and New York City, as well as having produced, mixed, and engineered multiple albums for Syracuse area artists, Patterson brought both a fresh take on blues bass and a wealth of recording knowledge that helped to shape the album’s sound. Rounding out the album’s sound is the incredible Byron “Kidd” Cage on drums. Although Cage has toured the world and recorded on Joe Louis Walker’s 2017 Grammy nominated album “Everybody Wants A Piece,” he is known first and foremost for kindness and humility both on and off the stage. As a Syracuse native himself, Cage was the perfect pick for the behind the kit. Together these three, along with a host of other acclaimed Syracuse area musicians, blend their various influences to create an original sound while staying true to the genre.

Little Buster (September 28, 1942 – May 11, 2006)] was an American soul and blues musician. He was born sighted, but developed glaucoma at the age of three. By the time his vision was completely gone, he was fluent on six instruments, including the guitar.
Born in Hertford, North Carolina, he moved to Westbury, Long Island at age sixteen. His first professional gig was at the Brooklyn Paramount, where he was a back-up guitarist for Alan Freed's Rock and Roll shows. He also became a regular at Long Island clubs.
In 1961, Buster composed his first original song "Looking For a Home" while living in Glen Cove. First recorded on Josie/Jubilee after winning a talent contest at Harlem's Apollo Theater in 1964, Buster released "Looking For a Home". He recorded a series of singles there, including his biggest hit in 1968, Doc Pomus' "Young Boy Blues". Buster's last single with Josie was "City of Blues" / "Cry Me a River". His singles and several new compositions were compiled for the 1970 album, Looking For a Home that was finally by the UK label Sequel in 1997. Al Kooper covered "Looking For A Home" on his 1970 album Kooper Session, released on Columbia Records. Buster changed his focus, concentrating on live blues with his band, The Soul Brothers. Buster married his wife, Mary, in 1969. In 1995, Buster recorded his Bullseye release, Right On Time. This release brought him worldwide exposure, with a W.C. Handy Award nomination, and a runner-up award for Living Blues magazine's Critics' Award. His 2000 CD Work Your Show opened up mass media exposure via CBS This Morning, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Late Show with David Letterman, on Dan Aykroyd's House of Blues Hour, international music festivals, and articles in Juke Blues, Backyard Blues and 20th Century Guitar magazines. In 2000, Buster began his own label with friends Steve Kleinberg and Ayanna Hobson, where he released his final CD, Little Buster and the Soul Brothers, Live Volume One. His band consisted of himself on guitar and vocals, Jerry Harshaw on saxophone, Frank Anstiss on drums, Alan Levy on bass and Robert Schlesinger on keyboards. As Andy Breslau said in the liner notes for Right On Time,
"Edward 'Little Buster' Forehand is a sublimely talented soul singer, a tough blues guitarist and a sure-handed songwriter with a knack for making rhythm and blues songs that evoke the classic 1960s sound. As one of New York's great undiscovered treasures, Buster has played the Long Island club circuit for over four decades." During four decades many musicians honed their skills in Buster's band. These included Lee Vaughn on saxophone, Val and Cousin Brucie on bass guitar, Lionel Cordew on drums, Jonathan Kampner on drums, Eileen Murphy on drums, Chris Candida on drums, Ed Hoey on percussion, Gene Cordew on keyboards, Roast Beef Joe on keyboards, Mitch Weiss on chromatic harmonica MitchWeiss, and guitarists Scott Ross, and Stevie Cochran. In 2004, Little Buster suffered from a series of strokes. In May 2006, he died as a result of complications from those strokes and diabetes.[1] He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Long Island Blues Society in 2002 for his efforts on behalf of music. He was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in 2006.

 7. Shades Of Earl (Tribute To Ronnie Earl & Earl Hooker) - 9:34

In these live recordings, Kai Strauss vibrates with deep musical understanding and shows a real grounding in fundamentals and an instinctive urge to fit together the right notes and solos. – there is nothing here that is filled with uncalled-for, frenzied guitar lines. Nothing mechanical or out of place. His repertoire on this CD sounds as if it came from Theresa’s Lounge in Chicago 1967. You can’t actually label Strauss as Just another European and separate him out from American artists – he is too good for that. In fact, he’s just about the last of musicians still jumping the authentic Blues with inspired fine blues guitar improvisation firmly grounded in that old Chicago-bred music that we all love. In choosing his songs or the appropriate intros, he shows the killer instinct that the old masters like Magic Sam had – Highway Blues is one example. Strauss’ so good here it’s scary.

 8. Walking to New Orleans - 4:08
 9. Blue Monday - 3:03
10. How You've Changed - 3:22

George Benson gets back to Americana basics on Walking to New Orleans, the jazz guitar legend's tribute to both piano-pounding hit machine Fats Domino and the original rock guitar hero and poet, Chuck Berry. Walking to New Orleans is Benson's first recording since 2013's Inspiration: A Tribute to Nat King Cole, but it couldn’t be more different. Where Benson embellished Cole's cool tunes with lush orchestral arrangements, Walking to New Orleans came about by hunkering down in a Music Row studio, with a quartet of first-call Nashville cats. This is Benson's 45th album, and few sound as loose-limbed and flat-out fun.

“Into the Soul” is a fitting title for the sophomore album by Josh Hyde. The Baton Rouge-born, Alexandria-based singer-songwriter and guitarist captures warm, Southern charm in his old-school approach to music. The album is a diverse company of songs, and Hyde’s sound nods to a variety of influences, from funky blues rock on opening cuts “Rocking Chair” and “Smile” to airy alternative on “Down on Bourbon Street.” While each track has is totally unique, the album is cohesive, warm and organic, which comes in part from the recording process. Forgoing heavy editing, “Into the Soul” was laid down on an analog reel-to-reel tape machine. “There’s just something to walking in and recording with a band, and committing to that take that you did right there and then,” Hyde has said. “It’s just like this spot in time, cemented on the analog tape. I just think it sounds better, too.” Hyde reminds listeners he’s a Louisiana guy at heart with songs that exude sounds of the South, like the upbeat boogie on “Call My Name” and “Edge of Love,” a stripped-down cross between outlaw country and acoustic blues. Lyrically, Hyde keeps it simple. Easy rhymes sprinkled into love songs make “Into the Soul” pleasant, approachable and nostalgic, evoking the rock and soul of the 1970s.
With his second LP, Hyde has created a project with songs fit for a dimly lit bar, a slow dance and a party, all on one record. “Into the Soul” will be released on April 26. More information can be found at joshhyde.com.

Anders Osborne - Buddha and the Blues

 8. The One I Love - 3:33
 9. Traveling with Friends - 3:51

Few musicians know what it’s like to leave New Orleans for California, record an album with a few absolutely legendary musicians, and return home in time to release said album and play the main stage at one of the world’s most beloved music festivals—but by the time the second weekend of New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival rolls around, Anders Osborne will. On April 26th, Osborne’s Buddha and the Blues will be released worldwide on Back On Dumaine Records. With the title in hand from the start, Osborne had a clear vision of how his new record should resonate, noting that, “Buddha and the Blues means the duality of our existence. The lyrics are supposed to be true, conversational, and uplifting with clean, classic, and thumpin’ sounds. That’s what I set out to accomplish.”  With the help of Buddha and the Blues producer, Chad Cromwell, an all-star cast of west coast session musicians was assembled at Brethren Studio in Ojai, California, for a soulful SoCal meets the Big Easy tracking session. In the company of Waddy Wachtel(Stevie Nicks, Keith Richards, Linda Rondstadt, Warren Zevon) on guitar, Bob Glaub(Jackson Browne, John Lennon, Don Henley) on bass, Benmont Tench (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash) on keyboards, Windy Wagner (Ringo Starr, Rod Stewart) on background vocals, and Cromwell (Neil Young, Mark Knopfler, Joe Walsh) on drums, Osborne set out to complete his initial vision; clean, classic, and most certainly thumpin’. The mellow, pacific vibes never overshadow Osborne’s greasy and groovy New Orleanian nature; it could even be argued that their symbiotic relationship could or should have been explored more thoroughly before now.
Buddha and the Blues opens with Osborne setting the tone off-mic in the studio. “Intimate and cool,” he says to the band, seemingly in jest, but a true mantra for what transpires next. The CD tracklisting differs from the digital release of Buddha and the Blues in that it is sandwiched by two very different versions of the same song—“Alone” and “Alone (Unplugged). “‘Alone’ was a meditative prose I wrote in my backyard,” he says. “It had a circular vibe to it, when I added the music, I wanted it to match the poem: a small word with an epic impression,” says Osborne. Between “Alone” and its unplugged counterpart, the album flows through a familiar-to-fans collection of quintessentially Anders Osborne songs. “Running” rides a mid-tempo, backbeat-heavy groove while Osborne sings about wading through life’s bullshit in his signature gravelly voice; a jubilant ode to one of life’s unfortunate realities. Of all the songs, the album’s penultimate tune, “Traveling with Friends”, feels the most like Southern California, musically-speaking—channeling a style these very studio musicians made popular with Jackson Browne, Tom Petty, and the like. Lyrically, it’s more personal to Osborne. “I wrote ‘Traveling with Friends’ on St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands while on vacation with my family. We had an amazing spot on top of a mountain overlooking a big part of the island, and I felt inspired and really grateful. I had a moment of relief from all of my searching and dissonance. I saw us all for what we are—beautiful, fragile, and in this tumultuous space trip all together.” On a grander scale, “Traveling with Friends” wraps up all of Buddha and the Blues’s conversations, ideas, and lessons, reminding us that we’re all here, doing this thing together.
To celebrate the release of Buddha and the Blues, Anders Osborne will take the stage at New Orleans’ famous Tipitina’s on April 25th, exploring this host of new songs in a live setting, right at home in Louisiana.

Lester Davenport - I Smell a Rat

11. Too Our Lost Ones 9/11/01 - 4:12
12. Stop Beggin' Me - 4:24
13. Goin' Away - 3:24

This sophomore disc from the Chicago multi-instrumentalist (but mainly harpist/vocalist) Lester Davenport follows his solo debut by a whopping 11 years. Although it's impossible to justify the wait, this is a terrific West Side Chicago blues album, confirming he's an under-recognized and way under-recorded musician. Guitarist Jimmy Dawkins (who also produced) adds more authenticity to this rugged album, one that could have been recorded for Chess in the '60s. Well, except for a rollicking instrumental entitled "To Our Lost Ones 9/11/01," and even that ignores its contemporary title, capturing the spirit of Little Walter's glory days. Piano duties are shared equally by Detroit Junior (on tracks 1-7) and Allen Batts (on 8-13). Both play with remarkable restraint, as does the entire band. Even Dawkins, who rides shotgun on the disc, lays back and lets Davenport do his thing. Neither Mad Dog's voice nor his "original" songs are particularly memorable, but the groove captured here is soulful and cohesive -- taut but flexible due to the loose professionalism of the players. The sound is clean yet not slick, and neither the artist nor the label compromises artistic integrity to entice a contemporary audience. This is straight-up/no chaser, hardcore Chicago blues played by pros who prove that even when sticking to a classic format, sparks fly in a conducive atmosphere. Kudos also go to the Delmark label for releasing an album so unflinching in its honesty to keep traditional Chicago blues alive.

“Got my own way/and it works just fine.” So growls Big Shanty amid the greasy funk blues of “Stop Pushing Me,” second cut on the first of this two-disc, 19-song overview of his impressive musical endeavors. Well, it has indeed worked out just fine for the big man since he stormed into the blues world with 2004’s World of Trouble and has continued marching on like Sherman to the sea, adopting a strictly scorched earth policy as he goes. A triple-threat writer/singer/slide guitarist, Shanty attacks most of his songs with impunity and a foul disposition, because this is serious business indeed. You can tell that much from the howling slide sorties and in-your-face vocal report to a wayward woman marking his punishing, Hendrix-like “They Say It’s Raining” (disc one). He may turn down the heat a bit on something such as “Got a Hold On Me,” in which both his dark, ominous voice and spacey guitar evoke the specter of the Doors at their finest; and on “World of Trouble,” he goes deep into the heart of a broken-hearted melody of a blues ballad, his voice full of the pain of betrayal, his stinging guitar adding a second, aggrieved voice to his own. He prefers, however, to get off simmer quickly and unequivocally. Disc one shows what he has done with mostly a basic band behind him—the occasional horn section or synth will show up—and thus showcases the variety of blues and blues-inflected styles over which he exercises complete dominion. A special treat in this set is the fevered, pumping, ‘50s-style musical orgy he engages in on a saucy, braggadocio-filled come-on, “Right Combination,” a crispy live track that gets some added oomph courtesy Phil Davis’s rollicking keyboards, Rick Phillips’s rumbling bass sax and a tart, electrifying Eddie Jett guitar solo complementing Big Shanty’s feisty vocal.
Disc two’s ten cuts feature Big Shanty’s combo joined by an array of special guests, including Wet Willie bassist Jack Hall (who enters the fray on the intense, unsparing title track from 2007’s Ride With the Wind, a relentless, multi-textured assault driven in part by Big Shanty’s rarely heard fingerpicked acoustic blues guitar, with Eddie Jett taking the electric guitar lead for a couple of searing solos en route); Hydra guitarist Spencer Kirkpatrick on a couple of cuts (including the sputtering, funkified southern soul delight, “Kiss the Eight Ball,” and the hard charging, party-hearty invite to sensual delights, “Love Train,” on which Kirkpatrick steps up for an energized, soaring solo about halfway through); the estimable and indefatigable Col. Bruce Hampton, adding out-there electric steel atmospherics to the grinding “Living On the Edge of Time”; and, on seven of the 10 cuts, Liz Melendez, doing honors both as guitarist and soul shouter vocalist—her heavy metal thunder on “Uncle Sam Go To Rehab” is all wondrous, brutal beauty defining a topical screed of Big Shanty’s directed at political corruption and government waste (this disc opens with another topical entry, the anti-war screed, “Killing Fields,” an occasion for Melendez to announce herself with wailing, electric protests), and on the aforementioned “Kiss the Eight Ball,” her multitracked backing chorus brings a Bonnie Bramlett soul strut to the proceedings.
The simple title of this release is telling: “greatest hits” has no relevance in Big Shanty’s world; “His Best” would be only partly correct, since more than two discs would be needed to support such a title. No, Collection is good. It’s not limiting, it’s not hyperbolic, it’s even understated. The better to lay you flat out when you get steamrolled by the contents herein. Watch out—there’s more to come. Big Shanty’s at large.

10. Uncle Sam Go to Rehab - 4:48

If you've never heard of Big Shanty, you may find that this album makes you feel a little bit dumb. How can someone with this kind of voice, guitar chops, and songwriting ability have stayed off your radar for so long? Ignore the press kit hype about how he "mixes retro with techno, Delta blues and club beats" -- what matters is that he makes blues-based roots rock that combines the density and nourishment of the best meatloaf you've ever eaten with the jump-up energy of a juke joint Saturday night. His slide playing isn't especially acrobatic, and his voice isn't especially pretty -- but both are eminently functional, and his grooves are irresistible. On Sold Out he really hits his stride on both "Love Train" (which sounds like a collaboration between Stevie Ray Vaughan, Tom Waits, and a rejuvenated John Lee Hooker), and the minimalistic but exceedingly fun "Tybee Town" (which features an unlikely combination of slide guitar and sitar). On "Walking Shoes" he sounds startlingly like Motorhead's Lemmy Killmister; on the album-closing "Uncle Sam Go to Rehab" he calls out America's government and, really, its entire population to bracing effect. Exhausting and brilliant.

Face melting guitar, high energy rock n' roll, unedited, straight from the board, live recording, reminiscent of the 1970s, this record has everything you crave from a live album!
The last five years have been a crazy time for Jersey bluesman Matt O’Ree. He went on tour across Southeast Asia as a member of Bon Jovi in 2015 and was inducted into the NY/NJ Blues Hall of Fame the following year with Eryn Shewell. He released a record that included a guest appearance by Bruce Springsteen, headlined shows at The Stone Pony, and married Eryn forming the state’s preeminent power blues duo. But one thing he hasn’t done during that time was take his band on the road, which he is about to do. The band will return to the midwest in May in support of their new album, Live at the Pony.
Over the past few years, The Matt O'Ree Band has done what most area bands do. They've played their shows, developed their sound, released their records and very quietly built a massive fan base in the process. What makes this band different from all the others is that their local fan base includes Bruce Springsteen, David Bryan, and Steve Cropper, all of whom have volunteered to perform on the band's last album, "Brotherhood".
Prior to Brotherhood's release, Matt's talent was recognized globally when he got the nod to join rock legends Bon Jovi as their guitarist/backing vocalist on their 2015 stadium tour of the Far East.
When some of your biggest supporters have sold over 200 million units, you know you're doing something right.
""Jon Bon Jovi gave me the opportunity to play on tour with him, and having Bruce and Bon Jovi in the same sentence, including with my record, my career. It's like, God, I wake up every day just feeling so blessed to know these people and that they thought and felt enough of me as a person and in my ability to want to help me out, to try to put me into the next level of my career," O'Ree tells Billboard."

About the Album
Stargazer is the nickname given to the hero of the story born into a dystopian future in which man’s neglect has made Earth no longer habitable. For the past 20 years on Proxima b, the colonists have been feverishly building a transparent dome to protect themselves from the sun’s radiation and to able to control their environment. Upon its completion, it is decided they should send out an exploration party to try to replenish lost supplies. After a two day trek, they come upon what looks like the ruins of an abandoned alien city where they find what appear to be texts written in an alien language. Are the writings actually alien, or could there be a connection to the colonists they could never dare to imagine?

11. I'm Gonna Give it up - 4:25
12. When The Blues Hit You - 4:24

Classic example of a Chicago blues ensemble. Driven powerfully by both harmonica and guitar.
"Serving up 12 Davenport original tunes on the album, 'Mad Dog' and his mates have cooked up a spicy stew of vintage blues sounds. Tracks like the hopping 'It Won't Work Like That, I'm Gonna Move' and the rousing 'I'm Gonna Give It Up' find Davenport ... singing convincingly in a gruff time seasoned tone, and blowing up a storm on the harp." -Chicago Blues Magazine
"The 'Mad Dog' is such a powerful soloist in the Little Walter vein (the Big Walter vein, too, before that worthy turned so introspective) that you wish he'd just keep on goin ... The model here is pretty clearly the Muddy Waters ensemble ... That's OK with me - the Morganfield model is a durable one and Lester even sings a bit like the Master ... As for backup, we've got John Primer, guitarist in Muddy's band and a student of Sammy Lawhorn ... Add Sunnyland Slim, his accomplices Stroger and Covington, and the right amount of chugging and scratching from Willow Davis, and you've got a band that ought to tour ... Excellent recording. Got for it." - Cadence

10. My Liver Don't Love Me No More - 3:52
11. Days Like This - 3:56

Every once in a great while there’s a blues band that reminds you why you love the blues. This band fronted by a spectacularly original lead singer is why these reminders are so far and few between. It’s ultimately the truth and depth of feeling dispensed on this disc that drives these extraordinary North East Londoners down their own boogie blues highway not necessarily all the way to hell but definitely one of the stops. North London blues veteran Howlin’ George Winter, born in Jamaica but came to London in the mid-sixties. His singing goes from growl to howl, from high to low, whatever the song demands, he delivers. He goes for it all without a net or filter and Steve Crane, electric guitar/musical soul mate, is always there to catch him with slick leads that come in just as many shades, moods and tones. The backup band is top shelf with Mick Whitehead on Bass and a nice “Shanty” style harp on the last tune, and John Baker on drums who is also name credited as producer of this fine sounding set of rocking blues recorded at Woodshed Studios, London. The songs, all originals, are credited to all band members who also share producer credit as a band with John. This is an all for one and one for all blues band of merry men.
The CD kicks off with the triple purpose band name; album name; and upbeat swinging title track letting the audience know the name is true and that they are about to have a great time. On track 2 it jumps right into the deep end of the pool of despair on part one of a conceptual song duo Never Say Never. The conclusion of which is Never Say Never Again on track 8. Howlin’ George lets us in on his personal troubles with a continental lady he chases over the two tunes only to find out in the end he’s not her number one. This is probably not a reference to the Romeo Void masterpiece punk dance floor filler but it does let non-believers in on a dirty little secret that punk sensibility is a part of the blues palette with this hard rocking outfit.
Track 3 “Cash Converter Blues” is a nod to mod and is the track most likely to break over the airwaves. But what follows is just as tasty. “Sugar Sweet” is a lament that wraps around your heart and doesn’t let go for both the long time lovers and the lovelorn. The next “Rhumba Woman” gets the Latin blues beat a nice run around the track as do all the tracks throughout the CD.  There is not one single miss on this disc and by the end of the program we’re back down to that old familiar place in hell with “My Liver Don’t love Me no More” and an acoustic finale about the mantra of letting things go.
The messages here are clearly delivered with humor and humanity and more than enough great music going on around it to compel many repeat listens.  This is a band to watch. They are the real blues thing that so often is missing from the mailing-it-in types endlessly touring until all the originality has been spent delivering the tired but true message. They could be much bigger given the quality of devotion to the art of getting the feeling just right for each tune. Variety is the spice and there is much to discover here.
Radio programmers should jump on this quick and let the people in on what is going on across the pond once again.

A winning combination of blues, rock and R&B, performed by one of Nashville's legendary blue eyed (well actually, green-eyed) soul singers/
Vickie Carrico was born in Louisville Kentucky. After believing for her entire childhood that she would become a nun, Vickie started doing gigs in bars at the age of 14 and has never stopped…
Since moving to Nashville some years ago, Carrico has been working not only as a solo artist, but also as a studio singer and as a background vocalist for any number of different acts. Shes lent her voice to albums by a diverse group of artists, from ZZ Top and Don McLean to Lee Greenwood and Patty Loveless. Carrico has also toured the world as a background singer with a number of artists including Dottie West, Sam Moore and Brenda Lee in addition to touring with her own material. Carrico has appeared in music videos with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Steve Wariner and Hoyt Axton, and has performed on television shows including Solid Gold, American Magazine, as well as HBO Specials and Public Television's "Rock and Roll Graffiti. Shes sung on jingles for, among others, Ford Trucks and the Los Angeles Lakers.
“Never Been Hurt” is Carrico’s first full length CD; she wrote about half of the material for the project, while the rest was chosen from among her favorite classic blues and R&B songs. In addition to Carrico, who sang lead and background vocals, the musicians who played on “Never Been Hurt” include Carolyn Martin, Etta Britt and Craig Morris (background vocals), Dave Martin (bass and percussion) and Tommy Wells and John Gardner sharing the drum duties. Don Carr and Jack Pearson played guitars, and Bob Patin, Catherine Styron-Marx, Murph Wanka and Rodger Morris played piano, organ and Electric pianos. Jim Hoke played harmonica and saxes, and led the horn section, a group that also included Steve Herrman and Billy Huber (playing trumpet and trombone, respectively).
Vickie Carrico lives in Nashville with her husband, Bob Reeves, and two cats named Bela and Boris.

AVID Roots continues with its Four Classic Blues album series with a re-mastered 2 CD release by John Lee Hooker complete with original artwork and liner notes. The story of John Lee Hooker is another classic blues story but with a twist, this one has a happy ending! Born into a poor sharecropping family with eleven children near Clarkesdale, Mississippi, by 1921 John Lee was saying hello to his new step father, a blues musician called William Moore. John Lee sites Moore as the man who set him on the road of the blues man. By 14 he had run away from home, allegedly never to see his mother or step father again.
By the 1940’s Hooker had become part of the black migration from the south to the industrial towns of the north. However, whereas the likes of Muddy and Wolf went to Chicago, Hooker landed in Detroit where he found work in the Ford Motor Company all the while checking out and playing in the local clubs around town. It was here that he decided to buy his first electric guitar, in order to be heard, he had discovered, you needed to play LOUD!
His recording career began in 1948 when he recorded his first major hit and most famous song "Boogie Chillun" which trade marked his classic sound, the boogie shuffle. John Lee Hooker falls into that rare category of blues men that includes B.B. King and not many others, who became more popular and successful the older they became. He enjoyed the 1960’s blues revival along with many of the early rural blues greats but was able to sustain that success through the following years and indeed enjoyed his greatest success during the 1980’s and 90’s and was preparing to tour Europe when he died at age 83 in 2001.

 4. Echidna's Are (of You) -  3:59
 5. Gravity -  9:59
 6. Buquebus - 14:04

The band was formed in 1998 in East Haven, Connecticut with the original lineup consisting of guitarist Tim Palmieri, bassist Ron Spears, drummer Adrian Tramontano, and keyboardist Jordan Giangreco. They decided on their first name, Psychedelic Breakfast, based on the suggestion of Tramontano's cousin. It is a reference to the Pink Floyd song "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast," from their album Atom Heart Mother. The original idea of the band's name was a play off of that song, "Adrian's Psychedelic Breakfast," after Tramontano; it was later shortened to just Psychedelic Breakfast.
The band began cutting its teeth by playing shows at a variety of local bars in the New Haven, Connecticut area during the early goings of 1999. That summer, they released their first album, Psychedelic Breakfast. Four songs from the album were featured on the MTV series, Undressed. As 1999 wore on and the world turned the page to the new millennium, Psychedelic Breakfast began to progressively start spreading throughout the Northeast. In 2004, Psychedelic Breakfast won a Jammy Award for being the "New Groove of the Year."Shortly thereafter, the band decided to change its name to 'The Breakfast.' Around this time, Relix Magazine published an article about The Breakfast. On June 17, 2006, The Breakfast performed its 1,000th show at Toad's Place in New Haven, Connecticut. Then on July 7, Giangreco played the final show of his first stint with the band at Beardslee Castle in Little Falls, New York. Palmieri, Spears, and Tramontano performed as a trio at Corner Pocket in Orange, Connecticut on July 8 and then forged ahead with that lineup, with Palmieri playing both keyboard and guitar.

12. They're Red Hot - 3:11

Many musicians go the solo route. Some take their place in a band. But for some, it’s when they find the right musical partner that their career really blossoms. Such is the case of the January Berry Band, based around the guitar work of John January and the vocals of Linda Berry. Though considered a blues band, their music can cover a lot of ground, taking in elements of funk, classic rock, and more, for a sound that’s built to keep a dance floor packed.
Both January and Berry have had thriving music careers, but it’s when they teamed up, both as musicians and romantic partners in 2015 that they started to truly reach the public’s attention. Their album, Chemistry 101 was nominated for a 2018 San Diego Music Award, with a new collection in the works and a slew of club dates ahead with their band, which includes Mel Hintz on drums, Brian Bannock on bass, and Doug White on keyboards.
“Yes, we are called a blues act,” Berry said. “But I think we are much more than that. It’s hard to categorize us. The blues is our first love, though. All of our music is filled with soul and most of it is “blues-based.” Like many blues artists, we do a lot of covers, but we like to pick lesser-known songs and put our own patina on them. The songs we pick or write reflect the diverse musical styles that influenced us growing up.’

The Mother Hips - Shootout

Bitrate: 320K/s

Time: 54:00
Size: 124,4 MB

Tracks Listing:
 1. Can't Sleep at All - 4:01
 2. Mother Hips - 3:25
 3. Honeydew - 4:09
 4. Collected Some Nerve - 3:13
 5. Single Spoon - 3:11

11. Whiskey on a Southbound - 2:42
12. Picture of Him - 3:50
13. Emergency Exit - 4:58
14. Superwinners - 3:35

Shootout begins with the spirited riff of "Can't Sleep At All," one of Mother Hips' best songs. By the time the last (hidden) track pounds to a close, a lot of fine music has gone by, but in the end, something doesn't quite latch. It's not that Mother Hips aren't good musicians, but vague songwriting and boggy production neutralize much of their energy. Tim Bluhm's voice is smothered, warping his otherwise playful lyrics into detached, formulaic murmurs. If his personality ever fully emerges, chances are Mother Hips will turn out some darn good records/

In 20 years of rocking the west coast, Incognito has earned its reputation in the upper echelon of Vancouver's sizzling R&B scene. With four CD's and countless miles of touring on the clock, this skin-tight blues machine just keeps gathering steam. Incognito came together in 1984 under the leadership of blues guitar prodigy Rob Montogmery and westcoast harmonica legend Sherman Doucette. Together they recruited arguably the best blues rhythm section on the coast: Bob Woods from the Matt Minglewood Band, and Bob Popowich from 6 Cylinder. Incognito was an immediate hit with their hard driving boogie, and rocking blues style.

Ze openen met twee Wille and the Bandits klassiekers, Keep Your Head Up en Trouble Down The Line.
Now, here’s an extraordinary tale, a yarn as unlikely as a condom in a convent and yet a second coming of sorts that will warm your soul. A few years after the end of the Second World War, a certain Eldon Backhouse was delivered into this world – the bastard son of a US Air Force grunt (Kent Backhouse) who had been stationed in Suffolk (and stuck around) and a flirtatious young English lass of considerable easy virtue. Seeking to escape the stifling, behind-net-curtains judgement of family and neighbors in conservative, iron-gray post-war Britain, the couple eloped with young Eldon and took passage to Backhouse’s town of origin – Helena, Arkansas.
Although details are very scant, their romantic new life together was short-lived. Old Kent began drinking for America, and a lonely, homesick Mum took solace and sought company in the juke-joints littered around town. Young Eldon got used to making his own way at the tender age of ten, often sneaking into the joints on the premise of looking for his mother….however, they never left together. As his mother soothed her lonely heart with the nearest interested male, young Eldon watched guitarist after guitarist at Club 25, eventually stealing a beaten up acoustic from the closet which doubled as a dressing room. That battered old six string became his escape from a torrid childhood and he learned the shit out of it. He soon formed his Electric Blues Band and featured frequently, if briefly, on the local scene.
At some point, believed to be in the late ‘60s, Eldon apparently experienced a “crossroads-type epiphany” of sorts and left the area to go to school studying law. He had sold his soul to the devil, crossed over to the dark side and practiced small town law – essentially disappearing into musical obscurity.
Perhaps in recognition of his own mortality or some other quirky twist of fate, Eldon Backhouse recently reappeared in the UK tracing his roots and met up with famed harmonica player, Alan Glen (The Yardbirds, 9 Below Zero, BB King). One thing led to another and together with Glen on harp, Backhouse has just recorded his first album entitled Catslide Roof.
Consisting largely of interpretations of classic blues covers, the album also features three original compositions and is heavy on shuffling, chugging, slide-soaked beauties.
Opening with “Baby Please Don’t Go”, Backhouse growls his way through a gloriously urgent, amphetamine-infused rendition. Things get a little dirtier on original track, “Corrugated Iron”, featuring weaving organ, slide and harp interplay to great effect and lamenting the demise of the long lost shacks where Eldon initially plied his trade.
Mose Alison’s “Parchman Farm” gets similar, respectful treatment and mixes up the pace of the album nicely. Ever-faithful to the evolution of the blues, Backhouse and his band pay tribute to his dual US/UK ancestry, including a freshened up version of Jagger/Richards’ “What A Shame” and a jangly, meaty cover of “Back In Your Town”, one of the Chequered-Shirted Wizard’s best tracks – Lord Rory of Gallagher would have raised a glass in justified salute to this one.
There’s almost a ZZ Top-type bump-and-grind on Backhouse’s excellent cover of Canned Heat’s “On The Road Again”, a groin-tingling, sweaty, driving blues which almost strains to be contained, such is the energy of the track. If you don’t “feel” this one, you’re dead from the waist down.
“Ramblers Shack” re-visits the theme of Backhouse’s troubled younger days, his sister teaching young Eldon to jive (although I suspect this is more of a reference to his “fun-loving” mother), a lilting, Celtic mandolin backdrop – a reminder perhaps of the link between early blues and country genres. Lush and melodic.
“Shrewd Move”, the third original Backhouse compilation, features some stellar, front-and-central guitar work and classy harp-blowing. Lyrically, Backhouse seems to recall his divorce lawyer days and has captured that “good man, feeling bad” vibe so prevalent in the blues. “Another Man” is a blistering interpretation of the traditional arrangement chain-gang song attesting to the brutality of the penal system.
An enigmatic story indeed and a very solid, tight album – the (lawyer’s) pen may be mightier than the sword but Eldon Backhouse and The Electric Blues Band prove that six strings, a bottleneck and Alan Glen blowing on his lickin’ stick conquer all. When it rains soup and all you have is a fork, them’s the blues and Backhouse might well be the cure.
