Singer-songwriter Casey James chatted with me about his new studio album "Strip It Down." which will be released on June 9.
On the song selection for his new CD, he said, "The whole process started as me writing songs that I wanted to hear and sing. Once that took shape, it literally was about whatever was real to me, and whatever sounded good, made the record. Those were literally the criteria. Do I like it? Did I write it? Does it say something that I want to ask? were the three questions that I asked."
James continued, "The idea of 'Strip It Down' was more of a thought process. The photography for the record, there was no hair and make-up, there was no wardrobe. It was me being me, stripping it down to just who I am, and doing one I do on a regular basis. We only had one photographer for the camera. I stripped it down with who I was writing with. I stripped down the production and I did not use auto-tune on my vocals. We stripped down all the layers. When you listen to this record, you will be listening to exactly what I wanted you to hear."
"I'm literally re-introducing myself and while I'm super proud of my first record, this record is a new beginning since there were no compromises on any level. What you hear is exactly is what I wanted to create," he further added. "It doesn't get any better."
Strip It Down features collaborations with blues artist Delbert McClinton ("Bulletproof") and Bonnie Bishop ("Stupid Crazy").
In his personal life, James is a father and he has a daughter. "I'm just super blessed. She is amazing and a sweetheart. She doesn't give us any trouble, and it's a whole different world," he said.
