Rock and powerpop hinted with flavors of the 60's, late 70's and early 80's.
The Antennas are made up of brothers Layne and Landon Ihde, with Mark Niemiec , all hailing from Nashville, TN.
Their self-titled debut album is destined to leave its mark as an original yet accessible masterpiece of pure rock n'roll. This is how one listener described her first Antennas experience:
"Upon the first moments of the first song cued on this (the Antennas’ MySpace) page, I thought, 'Well, wait...this band sounds like what would result if Luke Haines and Ric Ocasek were fighting over who would produce Soundtrack of Our Lives or The Hives, but better.'
Then, I listened to the next song. A little Martin Carr, a little Brian Wilson, Sloan, is that The Posies and The Jam mixed in a bit? No, it is pretty much its own thing. Wow, this band is really good.
Then, I realized something a bit more curious. I saw that this was a Nashville-based band. How in the world have I not heard of this band? (I am perhaps one of the biggest indie power pop nerds in existence. I couldn't speak when I met Alex Chilton (and I am not one prone to star-struckness, though I once helped to fetch Brian Wilson's mail for
him when I was helping his elderly neighbor with lawn work in St. Charles, Illinois and dropped his mail because I couldn't even look at him long enough to hand the correspondence to him.))"
