Canadian legend RIK EMMETT (Triumph) and his new band, RESolution9, are presenting today their new album "RES 9". Much of the album was recorded and mixed at the famed MetalWorks Studios, where Rik re-connected to his own roots.
In fact, the other two founding members of Triumph (Gil Moore and Mike Levine) reunite with Rik as special guests on one track, a song that conjures Triumph's glory days. Additionally, legendary guitarist Alex Lifeson of Rush performs on two stellar tracks, with James LaBrie of Dream Theater contributing extraordinary guest vocals on two cuts as well.
When Rik Emmett left Triumph many years ago he concentrated in solo material focused on acoustic stuff alongside his long-time friend guitarist Dave Dunlop (also part of RESolution9). That was stupendous musical stuff, though fans missed Rik's more rocking side.
But I always knew that Rik Emmett would release a new rock n' roll album sometime.
It’s been too long, but I am proud to say that Rik and his band RESolution9 have resurrected my faith in fighting the good fight.
Being a huge fan of Rock guitar and the people who play them with taste, "RES 9" does not disappoint in any way. Start to finish, Mr. Emmett and Dave Dunlop exchange licks and renew my faith that there are still artists that feel the music rather than just play it.
Of course the bonus of the Guitar God Sandwich of Rush's Alex Lifeson and Rik is something one could only dream of – yet I get not only one but two songs on this album; the excellent 'End of the Line' and 'Human Race'.
However, it gets even better: James LaBrie (Dream Theater) appears on two songs as well; 'I Sing' and the mentioned 'End of the Line', a true all-star line up song. LaBrie brings a new level to the musicianship by adding his fantastic vocals and we can hear a more 'melodic', classic rock aspect of his singing.
And to make long-time fans dream come true, "RES 9" even has reunited Emmett with his former Triumph band mates Gil Moore & Mike Levine for the bluesy rocker 'Grade Parade'.
"RES 9" is a high quality rock album with those catchy lyrics Mr. Emmett is known for. His personal growth as both a musician and a person shine brightly on this album with such tunes as 'Stand Still', 'Rest of My Life' and 'When You Were My Baby'.
His warm and welcoming vocals allow the listener to become part of his involvement and more times than not – even relate.
From start to finish this beautiful creation has me grinning and nodding. Grinning because now the younger music fans can hear one of the greatest (and underrated) Rock musicians out there – and nodding because this album f@cking rocks solid.
The Rock and Roll Machine is back and the engine is revving hi with Rik Emmet & RESolution9.
HIGHLY Recommended!
