Blues Rock with a Retro Vibe.
Granvil Poynter developed his blues based sound in the roadhouses of his native Arkansas and in the bars and juke joints of the Lone Star State. His gateway to the blues was the incredible work of popular artists Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughn, and once he got a taste of this he dug deeper and discovered the marvel of the old school masters, including (among others) Muddy Waters, Albert King, and John Lee Hooker. Granvil has been acknowledged with solid reviews for his album “Another Day Singing the Blues” from Big City Blues Magazine, Blues Blast Magazine, Rootstime and The Underground Blues Network. The Texas Bluesman won Best Blues Artist in the 2014 San Antonio Music Awards. In Jan 2015 Granvil got the call to open up for ZZ Top at the Majestic Theater for two nights in a row, Sat Jan 17 & Sun Jan 18. On the second night something magic happened, Billy Gibbons heard the two piece band Granvil Poynter-on vocals and guitar, Raul G. Garcia holding down the rhythm on a Cajon – a box like instrument that sounds like a drum. The iconic Mr. Gibbons let them know how much he enjoyed their sound. Mr. Gibbons graciously took the time with Granvil and Raul to talk music and guitars and in a great affirmation of their sound, telling them their music needed to be acknowledged and he would like to keep in touch. What a weekend!
Granvil continues to play venues and festivals in San Antonio, Austin and across the United States doing what he loves and continuing to keep the Blues alive and well with his excellent sidemen, all musicians of extraordinary talent and ability.
