John McDonald has been playin/singing the blues for over 40 years. He began in his native Massachusetts playing in local coffee houses in Boston , Cambridge and Worcester. He moved to Bloomington Ind in 1980 to attend school and continued to play solo locally including opening for Muddy Waters at a local concert. John next moved to Davis California to attend graduate school and started a band called "Buddy Funk" that became popular in the Sacramento/Davis and San Francisco Bay area. He moved to Athens Georgia in 2000 and started a blues band called "the unforgiven" that played regularly in the Athens/ Atlanta area. In 2016 the band broke up ("...we got sick of hauling equipment around and not getting to bed until 3AM and then going to our day jobs the next morningy...". Since 2017, John has been playing and recording solo in the Athens/ Atlanta GA area. His music is still rooted in the blues but he is enjoying playing music by Guy Clark, John Hiatt, Ry Coder and, his good friend, Eric Dahl in recent years. John has two albums out ""...mostly blues" released in 2019 and "Even Cowboys Get the Blues" released in 2020. Outside music, John serves as Director of the Integrated Cancer Research Center at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.
