Formed together by two college students from the University of Vermont, Reid Genauer (vocals/ guitar) and Jon Trafton (guitar) spent the first year together under the name Stranefolk while performing in pubs and coffee houses all throughout campus. Armed with only their acoustic guitars and distortion pedals, Genauer and Trafton eventually recruited Erik Glockler on bass and Luke Smith on drums, fulfilling the line-up as a four piece. With their own style of merging bluegrass, folk, rock and blues, Strangefolk had the chance to document this in the studio and eventually self-releasing their self-titled first album in 1994, followed by "Lore" the next year. After a hefty touring schedule across the United States in support of these two albums, Flat Earth Records took notice and put out "Weightless in Water" in 1998.

 9. I Tell Myself - 3:47
10. Invisble - 3:39
11. Cabin John - 8:06

Neo-folk quartet Strangefolk continues to peddle its breezy, upbeat style on its third album, 2000's A Great Long While. Another strong cohesive effort from the Vermont natives, it once again allows Dave Matthews, Spin Doctors, and Blues Traveler influences to peek through the group's own very deft and distinctive compositional touch. With its deceptively simple arrangements and occasionally outré instrumentation (note the apropos sax on "Mama" and horns backing "Pawn"), the band's carefully crafted songs quote a variety of styles, including electrified alt-rock ("Chasing Away"), reggae ("Sinner"), discreet psychedelia ("Blue & Grey"), and swamp blues ("I Tell Myself"). All the while, the musicians remain true to their group's core sound, making this a highly recommended listen for fans of challenging jam band material.

10. Tht Rest Of My Life - 2:42
11. I Want Ypu - 6:00
12. Hard To Be Allone - 6:38

Thankfully, Roscoe Shelton emerged from his retirement from the music business in a big way with the release of Let It Shine. He was starting to land on the R&B charts in the late '60s when a series of labels folded out from under him. This is a big-time R&B disc that should put him back in the spotlight in a well-deserved way. Right from the solid, uptempo R&B groove of the opener "Lady (Your Man's Runnin' 'Round)" to the restrained depth of hurt on "Hard to Be Alone," this disc is cookin' and percolatin'. Shelton has a voice that goes right to the apogee of the proper feeling of a song; his early days of doing lead vocals for the Fairfield Four, a popular gospel quartet, hold him in good stead. Let It Shine comes about as close as you get to the depth and truth of feeling in gospel on an R&B disc since someone of Sam Cooke's ilk was recording. Listen to him confess to being wrong on "I Was Wrong! Played with Love," and plead with the feeling of one who knows he has blown the best thing he ever had. What made this a more interesting disc is the fact that he wrote all the tunes but one. The backing band is also the band on another Black Top release, but they know how to play, and as a unit they are mighty impressive. This is one of the finest R&B discs to come out in a long time. Pick it up, it won't disappoint(https://www.allmusic.com/album/let-it-shine-mw0000044268).

Size: 84,1 MB
Label: Black Top Records
Styles: Blues
Art: Full

Tracks Listing:
 1. Voo Doo Woman - 3:59
 2. Running From Your Own Shadow - 3:17
 3. Mother-In-Law Blues - 3:39
 4. Stuff Like That - 3:59
 5. I Need Love So Bad - 4:50
 6. Learn From Each Mistake - 3:37
 7. If You Want To See The Blues - 4:33
 8. Movin' On - 3:59
 9. Part Of Loving You - 4:30
This contemporary of Albert Collins and Johnny Copeland only recently began accruing his own share of immortality -- and it really started with this fine album, recorded in both New Orleans and Houston. Hughes's clean, crisp guitar work and hearty vocals may not be quite as distinctive as those of his Houston pals, but he's an authentic Texas blues guitarist all the way.

Reddog and Friends - Booze, Blues and Southern Grooves

 4. She's a Georgia Peach - 4:25

10. Back in the Bottle Again - 3:45
11. Honest Man - 4:54

Once one of the favorite performers in Underground Atlanta, Reddog is a honey-voiced vocalist and stylish guitarist who delivers a treat with his latest album, teaming with some of the biggest names from the Muscle Shoals music scene to deliver a tasty, relaxed mix of Southern soul, blues, rock and roots.Influenced by Albert Collins, Freddie King, Duane Allman and Otis Rush, Reddog – aka JK Higgins — held court on Monday nights at Blues Harbor during the ‘70s and ‘80s, fronting an ensemble that regularly included musicians who recorded with Capricorn Records and were major players in the Macon and Hotlanta music scenes. He’s been releasing albums since his self-titled debut CD in 1986 and has based out of Pensacola, Fla., for the past 25 years or so, where he represented the Blues Society of Western Florida in the 2010 International Blues Challenge and from which he’s regularly toured the Southeast. And Guitar World magazine once included him in as one of its “50 Bluesmen That Matter.”
This CD came about after Reddog received an invitation from the late Alabama Music Hall of Famer Johnny Sandlin – who mixed or produced the Allman Brothers’ Eat a Peach, Brothers and Sisters and Win, Lose or Draw albums — to record at his Duck Tape Studio in Decatur and handle the engineering. Sandlin passed away with three tunes in the can, but Reddog didn’t have to go far. The rest of this disc was captured 45 miles away at East Avalon Recorders in Muscle Shoals under the supervision Charles Holloman and John Gifford III.Reddog’s backing unit includes world-class session players Clayton Ivey on keys and David Hood on bass, both of whom have been hitmakers since the ‘60s. Bill Stewart (Gregg Allman, Bonnie Bramlett) and Justin Holder (Albert Cummings, Lisa Mills) handle percussion, and backing vocals are provided by Carla Russell (Clarence Carter, Gregg Allman), Mary Mason and former Nashville Star – the country version of American Idol — winner Angela Hacker.A simple six-string intro opens “Love, You’ve Got to Spread the Word.” It’s an unhurried, unforced shuffle driven forward by a tasty hook as it stresses the importance of adoring and protecting your children. The action heats up slightly for “The Blues Will Get You Everytime” powered by a driving rhythm before the guitar-driven ballad “Down, Down, Down” continues Reddog’s descent. The mood brightens, the beat gets funky and Reddog plays slide for “She’s a Georgia Peach” before things slow down again with “Simple Song,” a sweet ballad described as “lullaby for my lady.” Built on the vocal hook of the title, “Searching for Some Soul” kicks off with a little slide then shifts into a medium-fast shuffle as Reddog goes hunting for some blues and honkytonk piano across Alabama. The band downshifts again and the backup singers are featured in “Why Oh Why Are You Calling Me,” which describes an ex-lover who’s blowing up his phone and looking for support after her ten-year marriage has gone belly-up. But the mood brightens dramatically from the opening notes of “Don’t Muscle That Shuffle,” a beefy, rock-steady instrumental on which Reddog shines. It flows into the well-modulated, stop-time pleaser “Old School Blues,” an autobiographical number than lists several giants of the genre and delivers some tasty licks, too. Two more cuts – the Southern rocker “Back in the Bottle Again” and unhurried “Honest Man,” which conveys a little knowledge about life handed down by the singer’s mother – bring the album to a successful close. If you’re a fan of original, blue-eyed soul with straightforward, easy-to-understand messages, you’ll love this one.

10. You're the Best Thing - 3:47
11. Another Lover Like You - 4:12
12. Only Rock 'n' Roll Can Set You Free - 5:19

Elias T. Hoth’s ‘Metastatic Syndrome’ is full of all the road-tested elements with which he’s made his name in the last few years. There’s the unsettling title to start with, then there’s the balanced mix of roadhouse rocking, good time-boogie tempered by reflective ballads. What’s probably different from his previous albums is the increased attention to sonic details in the form of significant bv’s and lush harmonies, which provide the perfect context for both his gruff voice and his nascent songcraft. And while hard rocking remains Elias T. Hoth’s business, he’s not averse to digging deep for some heartfelt balladry within cleverly worked arrangements that evoke his lyrics. It’s an album that recycled classic rock themes, from rock and roll itself, though the devil, sex, death, love songs and sorcery, all interwoven with electronic effects, lashing of guitar and topped by his own fierce some growl, natch! It’s an album that rocks and boogie’s hard and explores meditative songs to boot. To that end he reigns in his excesses to explore restraint on a handful of ballads, of which the reflective opener ‘Another Lover Like You’ sets the template for equally good outings such as ‘Don’t Fear The Night’, complete with strings bv’s, and a defining ascending guitar. And just when you think the song has run its course there a big choral finale full of feel and grandeur that completely transforms it into something epic. He’s equally good on the country rock feel of ‘Home Is Where the Heart Is’, a radio friendly country rocker with supporting harmonies. It’s a catchy melody with a strong vocal, a great band and further backing vocal support. Then there’s ‘Sweet Summer Desire’ which is a revelation and arguably the album highlight.  Built on a portentous bass drum pattern and intricate percussion, it neatly offsets Hoth’s measured vocal which is again bathed in warm bv’s. It’s a beautiful arrangement in which the music evokes the summery lyrics, while the mid-number vocal swoop into the solo is simply majestic. ‘The Moment Of Sweet Surrender’ is another string-led ballad, on which he smooths out the edges to lean into a vocal that could almost be the late Jacky Leven (Doll By Doll). He bookends the album with the acoustic ‘The Best Thing’, a kind of reflective southern tinged love song, complete with an Allman Brothers style, Chuck Leavell piano part and an uplifting hook on which his gruff persona gives way to a melting heart. But before all the die-hard Hoth rockers head for the hills, there’s still plenty of hard rocking good stuff. ‘Dead On Arrival’ for example, opens with a voice collage announcing the assassinations of Martin Luther King and John Lennon before the band explodes into some Deep Purple riff driven rocking. Hoth applies his coarse growl to make the lyrics jump out of the track and into a catchy hook, flanked by an impressive guitar driven wall of sound. ‘The Devils Gonna Take Your Soul’ recycles some good old rock clichés to good effect. And while the tongue in cheek ‘Down Down Loaded’ is a Quo style boogie with a staccato, stop-time opening and a chanted hook about various sexual predilections, the following roadhouse rocker ‘Hell Or Highwater’ makes better use of Hoth’s growl. ‘Metastatic Syndrome’ is all about striking a balance between the Elias T. Hoth’s hard and occasional southern rock styles and his new found balladry. His growing songwriting ability taps into some deep emotive recesses leading to several memorable melodies. His additional use of bv’s and occasional duets with Nina Lanaghan brings a whole new dimension to his music. This album shows his ability to step out the comfort zone and leap into the void with brand new meaningful songs with real feel. Metastatic Syndrome successfully crosses that divide and deserves to expand his fan base. ~ Review by Pete Feenstra

Stunning album the best Elias.T.Hoth has done so far! Elias.T.Hoth embarks on his 11th original musical invention in as many years, to date his repertoire has included 5 studio albums, 4 live albums and 2 DVDs.His album brings us a new insight and perspective to this hard ass mean kickin rock monster, who is renowned for his uncompromising and unforgiving rock and blues back catalogue. But this time as they say there is a twist in the tale. To be fair the word “reflective” is not a word you would associate or would have previously heard of within the Elias.T.Hoth’s historical song vocabulary. Therefore using the narrative “reflective” is somewhat juxtapose and iy is strangely a word he considers to be very poignant and is at the very heart of at least half of this unusual and innovative album. The album contains no less than 5 very intimate reflective ballads which are extracted from the torrents his own life, all of which have significant depth and meaning and provide a deeper insight into the emotional substrate of the man himself. Many of the new ballads, and dare I say the album even brings us a country song, takes us on an emotional rollercoaster ride. The album includes tracks such as “Now and always”, “Looking back” “One Day” and “Echoes of my life” all of which were written several years ago and cover the darker and very difficult personal periods of his life. It is really only now, that he feels he is able to finally confront these emotions and feelings and finally put them to rest within the context of his latest “O Rhesus Negative” (his blood group by the way ) album landscape. Similarly, the album also delivers us some brand new brisling visceral brilliant Rock N Roll songs, possibly the best so far, all of which I believe will in time become classics in their own rights. So do look out for such album song titles as, “For “Whom the bell tolls”, “Roll on down the highway”, “ Long live Rock ‘N’ Roll” and “What can’t speak can’t lie” ably supported by some very edgy and excellent true-life 12 bar blues shuffles in “Hook, line and Sinker” and BCM Catfish blues.

Choice - Just A Dream

 5. Sonnenaufgang - 3:36
 6. Old Piece Of Rock - 4:53
 7. Back Up - 7:31
 8. Nothing To Hide - 5:36

CHOICE is a German band who release only one album in 1980 named simply Just A Dream on the German label Rocktopus in vinyl format, never issued on CD yet. Three of the musicians from here are from another German band from late 70s EPIDAURUS (Symphonic Prog). When this band broke-up the original members Gunther HENNE, Gerd LINKE and Heinz KUNERT gathered to form a new band - CHOICE. CHOICE'S music is somewhere between Symphonic Prog (not far from German bands from the late 70s like TIBET, TRILOGY or NOVALIS) and some pop elements here and there. A good album, with pleasant pieces, not very complex, but not too simple either. Some keyboard passages reminiscent of ELOY, spacey and very well executed, also the instrumental passages are great, showing that CHOICE was a promising band that for some reasons never made it in music circles. Although long gone, CHOICE should never be forgotten.

Short-lived rock duo formed by York-born singer/guitarist Cliff Wade and drummer Geoff Gill, formerly of the Smoke ("My Friend Jack"). They lasted long enough to release a pair of singles and an LP on the Aura label, before Wade and Gill turned to the more lucrative field of songwriting and scored a hit in the hands of Pat Benatar with "Heartbreaker" a year later. Both also worked with singer Jenny Darren, and Gill went on to work with the Euro-disco outfit Boney M., who had a modest hit with a cover of "My Friend Jack" at the outset of the 1980s.

11. Chase the Dragon - 6:03

Very unusual, when a 12-year gap seems like only a few months soundwise.''Madhouse'' was recorded a dozen years away from Body's debut and with a vastly different line-up (only Gary Alliston and John Bleasdale come from the old core, also two female members appear on vocals and keys), but the music is well-rooted in their first attempt, this is tempting British-styled Prog with Floyd-ian and psychedelic touches, based on expressive vocals, layers of atmospheric synthesizer and stretched electric guitar hooks. Some tracks sound like pure Neo Prog of the 80's, other are more in a Neo-Psych mood with electric leads and odd atmospheres. There seems to be another mysterious album (''Mirror image'') recorded by the band in 1989, but has anyone ever seen it?

ASSOLO DI BONGO are an all-instrumental quartet from Udine (Italy) who play an energetic combination of Italian Prog and driving rock fusion in the vein of D.F.A. and DEUX EX MACHINA. Shades of AREA, GENTLE GIANT and CAMEL can also be heard on their album entitled "Primetime". The band consists of David Accaino on keyboards, Enrico De Stalis on guitar, Elvis Fior on drums and Erico Rainis on bass.Released in 2001, "Primetime" features some strong melodic compositions but the foursome aren't afraid to dig into some extended improvisation either. Despite its heavy aspects, however, their material clearly belongs to the prog-rock fusion rather than the prog-metal fusion category. The musicianship is impressive and the writing unique and enticing, alternately flirting with jazz rock and heavy-duty fusion, at times resembling ELP in a jamming mode. It all makes for a spirited romp of high-energy instrumental prog where everything flows nicely, as the band clearly favours the over-all effect over solo displays. A very 'together' little album, quite impressive and well worth checking out.Fans of D.F.A. and DEUS EX MACHINA will love this, but if you enjoy melodic rock fusion in general and want to hear some fine jamming, you'll have some fun with ASSOLO DI BONGO's material. From Italy comes a band with an immense potential which have signed with the famous and well respected French label-MUSEA!I think that's more then enough for a guarantee that this band and album has many things to deliver!First of all a compositional maturity which proves that in the band are skilled and gifted musicians! And that's the truth, becaue the album is rich in ideas and the musical message is perfect for those who adore fusion in a traditional veine as MAHAVISHNU,DIXIE DREGGS and othe fusion icons!Top production and a great variety of compositions, addition of saxes, cellos and trumpets to the classical fusion instruments,a very pleasant and nice album made with passion and belief for true wonderful fusion music! This album is a giant step ahead compered to the first musical effort of the and,the already excellent debut album under the ASSOLO DI BONGO name! They have changed...shotened the name in ADI B,and this time the Italian musicians are really pushing the musical boundaries to some more focused on composition songs and not on the individual demonstrations!Definitelly, the guys are talented and from the surprisingly muscled BAD BOY H ,passing by JOUNGLE BOX to the complex title track composition, the whole album offers an excellent audition! We hope to have in the future many surprises from a band with wonderful musical perspectives,a developing personality and already 2 excellent albums in pocket! Musicians:
Janne Schaffer - guitar
Björn J:son Lindh - flute, piano
Pete Robinson - keyboards
John Gustafson - bass
Barry de Souza - drums, trumpet
Ola Brunkert - drums, percussion
Melando Gassama - percussion

This is an excellent Jazz Rock album out of Sweden although this rather large seven piece band includes three guys from the UK. I like the picture of the guys on the back cover. Two of the Brits John Gustafson(bass) and Peter Robinson(electric piano, clavinet, synths and organ) come from the heavy band QUATERMASS while the other is Barry De Souza out of London on trumpet and drums. The legendary Bjorn J:Son is here on flute, electric piano and percussion.
Man this is such an impressive album to listen to. Mostly uptempo with outstanding musicians playing complex arrangements. A lot of percussion on here along with some incredible bass and drum work while the flute, guitar and electric piano often solo over top. Some exceptions are the short "Woodchurch Sorceress" which is haunting with experimental sounds and sparse flute. And the longest track and closer "The Visitor" is also haunting to a lesser degree as it trips along with some flute and a relaxed sound. Headphone music right here. "Third Meter Stroll" is all about the beats and bass. Love that bass. Favourite tracks are "Bluegaloo" the opener with some funk and flute leading the way. Lots of percussion sounds then the guitar solos after 2 minutes. The other top song for me is "Equator" with that powerful sound and insane flute. Some cool sounding guitar expressions and electric piano too. Just a very well played album with tons going on most of the time. The bass player would go on to play with Ian Gillan band and Roger Glover while the keyboardist went to BRAND X.

Calvin Leavy (April 20, 1940 – June 6, 2010) was an American soul-blues and electric blues singer and guitarist. He had a hit single in 1970, when "Cummins Prison Farm" peaked at number 40 on the US Billboard R&B chart and stayed on the chart for five weeks. Locally, it was number one on the chart of radio station WDIA, based in Memphis, Tennessee.Later in his life, Leavy became the first person indicted under the 1988 drug kingpin law. He died in prison.
Calvin James Leavy was born in Scott, Pulaski County, Arkansas, the youngest son of fifteen children. As a child he sang in his church choir. By adolescence, he was singing with various gospel ensembles in Little Rock. He formed the Leavy Brothers Band in 1954, and they were popular locally, before relocating to Fresno, California. By the end of 1968, they had moved back to Little Rock and were playing at local clubs. Through this work, Leavy was offered recording time at E&M Studios in Little Rock. The group recorded a cover version of "Tennessee Waltz" and the song "Cummins Prison Farm", written by Bill Cole. Leavy used the prison experiences of one of his brothers to expand the lyrical content. It was originally issued by Soul Beat Records and was subsequently distributed nationally by Blue Fox Records, that label's first release. "Cummins Prison Farm" reached number 40 on the Billboard R&B chart. Recorded in one take, it was one of 27 blues-based songs that reached the R&B chart in 1970. Leavy recorded further singles for Aquarian, Soul Beat, Downtown and Messenger Records.[5] These included "Nothing but Your Love", "Give Me a Love (That I Can Feel)" and "Goin’ to the Dogs Pt. 1". The band also made some recordings for the Arkansas Bicentennial Blues Project, which are archived at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. They also appeared in 1977 at the Beale Street Music Festival, before disbanding. Forming Calvin Leavy and the Professionals, he and his new band remained popular locally. They recorded "Is It Worth All (That I'm Going Through)", "Big Four", "What Kind of Love", "Free from Cummins Prison Farm", and the prophetic "If Life Last Luck Is Bound to Change". Further national chart success eluded him, but he maintained a strong fan base in the South, and his records often appeared on local jukeboxes. Cummins Prison, the inspiration for Leavy's only national hit record and later his residence In 1991, Leavy was charged with making payments to an undercover police officer and was convicted of multiple drug-related offences in July 1992. He was sentenced to life plus twenty-five years. His imprisonment started at Cummins Prison. By 2004, his sentence was commuted to seventy-five years. Leavy died in June 2010, at the age of 70, in the Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, He would have been eligible for parole in eighteen months.

From the super-obscure label that also gave us Candle, this is a surprisingly good country-rock aggregation with ringing guitars and close harmonies. Imagine Stephen Stills fronting the early Poco, and you have a good idea of the overall sound. A fine cover of Steely Dan's "Only A Fool Would Say That" is a highlight.

Tracks Listing:
 1. No Apologies - 3:45

10. What’s It All About? - 5:00
11. Thank You Mama - 3:27
12. Revolution - 6:29

The first acquaintance with Dirty York was during a TV broadcast of Rockpalast and very impressed by it, in anticipation of the album 'Feed the fiction' to be released in 2013, but for a moment an oldie from 2009 from Australia came over. The effort was not in vain and only fuels the hunger for the new disc. The band immediately jumps in with the rocker songs 'No apologies' and 'Roll with it', songs that seem influenced by a mix of AC/DC, Rolling Stones, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Aerosmith but always retain their own identity. Then follow the southern rock songs, 'All my friends look like Jesus', something that three of the five gentlemen also succeed in doing, and 'Grapefarm diamond from Mexico', two songs where they rival the greats of the 'southern rock earth', really sublime. Then it is time to slow down with 'Crazy little thing' and which literally and figuratively touches the sensitive nerve, the goosebumps are not caused by the weather here but really with soul-cutting music and vocals, this also applies to the JJ Gray feeling evoking 'Blue eyes' and 'One in every crowd'. In between, of course, that solid rocking, but oh so wonderful sound, to end with 'Revolution' another emotional song. Conclusion: a band that plays so nice and solid and also plays such beautiful sensitive music and still makes it fit together, then there is only one word for it: SUPER

Exciting debut album from North Hollywood based rock band, dirty mercy. This straight ahead, "no nonsense" band draws it's influences from such 70's .Palpable agitation circulates among the relatively few people who come into contact with Dirty Mercy...The feeling that this quartet, located in North Hollywood, California, USA, is designed to restore the glory of rock and roll. Taking inspiration from great rock classics like Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Pink Floyd and The Rolling Stones, Dirty Mercy turns current music scripts with the same sound of hot idols, consisting of shamelessly bed songs, you're alive and constant solos. Awesome cd. if you like real rock music, then this cd is for you...the guitar solos are amazing....all i know is these guys are talented.

Solution were a Dutch progressive rock band that existed from 1970 to 1983, during which time they released six studio albums and one live album. They incorporated jazz, rock, pop and soul influences, becoming more commercial on their fifth and sixth albums.
Their first eponymous LP comprised mainly instrumental pieces, complex yet repetitive in structure, with bassist Peter van der Sande singing on one track. He was succeeded by Guus Willemse around the time of its release, and immediately the band began recording more vocal songs; three of the tracks on second album Divergence featured lyrics. The third album Cordon Bleu (1975) was released on Elton John's own label named The Rocket Record Company, as was its follow-up Fully Interlocking (1977). Both albums were produced by John's producer Gus Dudgeon, and featured a crisper sound and more concise songwriting.Despite some criticism for a more commercial direction, the next two albums, It's Only Just Begun (1980) and Runaway (1982) continued this trend. The two title tracks from these albums became hit singles in Europe. Solution split in 1983, playing a final concert at Paradiso in Amsterdam and releasing a double live album. They regrouped in March 2006 for two concerts at Panama, Amsterdam (released as a DVD in July 2007), while a triple CD compilation (The Ultimate Collection, comprising almost every track they released) was issued in 2005. Also, a 1976 pairing of Solution and Divergence (simply titled Solution) was reissued by EMI in February 2007, featuring "Fever" (left off the original CD edition) and "Divergence", the studio version of which was omitted from The Ultimate Collection in favour of the 1983 live recording.
This Cd was released during the last tour in Holland. It gives a good impression of the quality of the musicians playing LIVE. From the commercial "Runaway" to the sencitive "100words" it is still a pitty today that a great band as Solution has split.

From Pueblo, Colorado this psychedelic rock band formed in 1969 and continued to play all over the Pacific Northwest until their break up in 1974. The band recorded a concept album for Warthog Studios in Denver between 1971 and 72 that had been stored away for some 30 years until now! Superb wah wah fuzz guitar, dreamy Moody Blues harmonies and a cool use of woodwinds make this a real lost classic! Almost 80 minutes long. A really excellent album! (FREAKEMPORIUM)

Warren Zevon – vocals, guitar;
Peter Buck – guitar;
Mike Mills – bass guitar;
Bill Berry – drums.

The Hindu Love Gods were essentially R.E.M. with Warren Zevon replacing Michael Stipe as front man. Always somewhat of a joke, the quartet did manage to release a self-titled album of cover songs that they had recorded in 1987 with leftover studio time. Loose and spirited, the group tackles a range of off-the-cuff covers that could be throwaways but for the sheer talent and charm of the players. Indeed, their spirited rendition of Prince’s “Rasberry Beret” even made the charts in 1990. A pair of Robert Johnson-penned blues classics and Muddy Waters’s “Mannish Boy” are attempted with similar aplomb. HINDU LOVE GODS is a rare kind of supergroup album: good-natured, unpretentious, irreverent, inebriated, and ultimately essential/
Hindu Love Gods is the only album by American band Hindu Love Gods, which was released in 1990. The album was recorded around the same time as Warren Zevon's album Sentimental Hygiene, for which Zevon had enlisted Bill Berry, Peter Buck and Mike Mills of R.E.M. as players. The musicians also recorded this set of cover versions, reputedly during a late-night drunken recording session. The recordings were not originally intended for release.

Left Hand Smoke has finally brought years of road work and stage experience together and put out a startling album that was largely culled from the demos of songs that songwriter Ben Mish had written since his early days in New York and the inception of the band. Working with Producer/Engineer Stevie Adamek (The Allies, The Believers), the band embraced a new direction, pushing themselves to explore new musical territory. The resulting album, At the Hotel, combines catchy hooks and soulful melodies with the crushing rock and roll for which LHS has become known. Mastered by Mark Guenther (The Refreshments), At the Hotel is a fresh sound from a band that has shown their ability to expand in new directions while remaining true to their musical roots.

James VINCENT is just one of many excellent musicians from Chicago area. As a guitarist he changed through a lot of styles, and through his career was not just a solo artist but a studio musician, writer and composer. One of his first more known bands in blues ridden Chicago were THE EXCEPTIONS in which he worked with Pete CETERA who would become lead singer of CHICAGO. After working as a studio musician for many Chess Records recording artists, VINCENT became a guitarist for the proto-prog band H.P.LOVECRAFT. Then he met Howard WALES & Jerry GARCIA with whom he toured for a brief time. While touring and playing the blues/funk influenced fusion at the time, VINCENT became inspired with their opening band and their guitarist, which was John MCLAUGHLIN and MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA.Afterwards he began recording and released four albums up to 1980 before taking a longer break with his solo career. His earlier records can be reminiscent of for example SANTANA with whom he used to work with and his RnB roots show in a lot of his work but amongst those there is fine energetic instrumental jazz fusion.

Chicago-based band mixes it up with 10 new original songs. The album is a showcase for Smillie's husky vocals and the fine performances offered up by the band. Strong songwriting with a mess of r&b/blues/soul roots. Born in Detroit, Pat Smillie began honing his vocal style while still in high school. Inspired by the Motor City's unique rock and soul vibration, he started out listening to Ray Charles, Mitch Ryder, Bob Seger, Joe Cocker & The Temptations and spent his teenage years singing in rock & soul cover bands on Detroit's southwest side. He moved to Chicago in 1992, where he has since become a fixture on the Chicago scene.

"Whatever Pure Reason Revolution produces is going to echo the back catalogue, but it cannot help but be a progression." - Chloë Alper
In their decade as a band, Pure Reason Revolution relentlessly innovated on every release. Their debut was a modern spin on classic prog, as accessible to fans of Tool and Muse as it was to Pink Floyd fans. Amor Vincit Omnia and Hammer and Anvil took them into electronic territory, all while maintaining a common progressive rock thread. It's fitting then that Eupnea, the long-awaited return from the band, sees them harking back to their earliest days, while rolling in all of the musical experiments and experience they've gathered in the intervening years. The cinematic soundscapes of Hammer and Anvil? Check. The dark atmosphere and synths of Amor Vincit Omnia? Check. The gauzy psych-prog of their debut? Ch-check.It's sprawling, with three tracks hitting the ten-minute mark, and one notching up against fifteen. Sure, track length does not equal ambition, but still, it's quite the statement of intent. So why now? After completing the touring cycle for the debut album by Bullet Height - his electronic duo with vocalist Sammi Doll - Jon took an extended break. "I didn't do any music for six months or more, and then I just really started thinking, 'where am I?', 'who am I?' it was like a musical reset or something. I started back in the studio and what I was doing was much more proggy sounding. I thought, 'well, that doesn't really fit with Bullet Height, but this fits with Pure Reason, it sounds like Pure Reason.'"
Rather than shy away from it, he picked up the phone. "I thought well, I need to speak to Chloë if this is going to be even a possibility... she said it sounded like a great idea."The distance from the project gave us reflection time. I think all of us wanted to have a go at some other things, see what they were like and then maybe come back to it," Chloë says, adding that it was clear what the tone of the new album should be. "We wanted it to feel firmly proggy as well as exciting and new, and raw."That wasn't the only call Jon made. His next was to Greg Jong, the original guitarist of the band."I had some demos knocking around for this new stuff I'd been working on and I said, 'look Greg, how do you feel about coming over to Berlin?'" recalls Jon. They collaborated on three of the album's six tracks, with his contribution to the sound of Eupnea best summarised by his past writing & production credits in PRR - "we did the initial demos together that led to the Sony deal, so that would have been tracks like Apprentice of the Universe, Nimos & Tambos, and Bright Ambassadors of Morning."For some bands, this would simply be retreading old ground. For Pure Reason Revolution this relaunch is a rebirth, producing their most confident record yet, which takes them in a new direction while weaving in the elements that endeared them to fans in the first place.

Blues rock guitarist, singer-songwriter Popa Chubby is set to release a new album It’s A Mighty Hard Road, on March 1, 2020. With 15 tracks, two covers and 13 originals, the record rocks the blues with plenty soul.Popa Chubby, born Ted Horowitz, has been playing blues, rock and soul for 30 years. New York city based guitarist, songwriter and singer became a hardcore rocker in the early 90’s. He is known for his aggressive style of blues, influenced by Willie Dixon.Popa Chubby has released a slew of albums over the years, his latest being Prime Choice, out 2019. Popa is a prolific artist and multi-instrumentalist, and never one to conform.
Popa Chubby says,
“You know me? I’m not what you think I am. I’m half human, half beast, 300 pounds of muscle and man, New York born native son. Grew up hard, too big to run. I came up on the streets of the Bronx, Queens and Manhattan. I sought the streets to find the love I could not get at home but all I found was trouble, heartache and despair in the barrel of a gun and the eye of a needle in my vein. Then the music saved me, the guitar saved me and I was no longer fat Teddy from the block. I was a player, a singer, a writer, and I found out people loved me for that.
I was risen from the ashes, made stronger from the fire, I was ready for the trials and the tribulations that would bring me to where I am now! 30 years is a lifetime or a blink of the eye, depends on how you look at it. For me every day, every show, every note, every flight, every story, every hug has been sheer joy. I truly believe this has all manifested for a reason. I shine as an example of the human spirit. What does not kill us surely makes us stronger and the art and music we make bares the power of an uphill climb.
My friends, Brothers, Sisters, Nieces and Nephews. My humble offering to you. 15 tracks of my very bestest. No matter who you are, no matter what you do, no matter what you believe we are all the same and…”
